Best way to transport a Vette

Hi

I have to drive over 400 miles there and back and none of my cars have a hitch nor do l want to put one on.

Is there a place that rents a truch with a trailer to pull it. Several years ago l towed my sons car behing a U-Haul, but l could of cared less about it.

Or should l just drive 8 hrs with my wife sleep over and then drive another 8 hrs back.

This is a pain but l am buying a low mileage minto 02.

Drive it!

I would suggest you drive it. What better way to get to know your new ride? Now, I've pulled cars on trailers, no big deal, but it's a pain getting gas, food, passing others, dealing with morons, etc. Plus-you'll pay extra for gas, and a one-way rate if you choose that route.

I'd say it's a great "road trip" for you and your wife or a friend. Get a hotel, go out, mix with the locals, and drive that baby home the next day.

It's a 02 mint!!! Drive It!! I transport Cars and Trucks all the time!! I put two on the Truck and My wife and daughter each drive one!!

You're Picking It Up?

I'm sorry if I'm confused but are you going 400 miles to pick up a mint 02? I'm guessing that's what you mean, drive out with the wife, spend the night and you drive the 02 back and the wife follows with whatever you take out. That's not going to be the cheapest but unless your wife doesn't mind driving 8 hours, there are other ways. Rent a car one way drive the 02 home, then you're not paying fuel for two cars each way and only one driver each way. Fly in, get a cab, drive home or pay someone with an enclosed trailer to do the move. Do you have to inspect the car or is it a done deal? This time of year that mint 02 will be full of salt from the drive.

The 02 has only 11,500 miles and has the GBPP major Guard until another 14 months. All of the records on the 02 say do it.

The only problem he had was with the rotors for lack of use and new ones were put on 2000 miles ago, it's all documented.

But you never know and l would have to fly there and have him pick me up and what happens if l spot something weird which l doubt.

I saw every angle shot possible and the seat skins were replaced less then two months ago by the dealer, again documented. The reason was that the stitching was not right again documented.

He wants me to drive it and he is using his dealer so that l can get 30 day temp plates. He is not using it to buy another car.

None of my freinds would follow me except my wife.

By the way l live in Monmouth County New Jersey and to get to Phila airport is a killer. There are no cheap flights from Newark.

It sounds like the current owner is a perfectionist and really cared about his/her ride. Sounds like a low risk trip as far as the car goes.

Ask your self, how many times am I going to do this?

I did it once before and had a GREAT time driviing home. Flew to Seattle from Santa Cruz, CA., picked up a black on black 1982 special edition in 1985 sight unseen, back off a lease.

Alan......somethings not sounding right here. I've got an '02 with about 13-14k on the mileage. I've never heard of rotors going bad from lack of use. And my seats have a little wear on them......but not enough to replace. If you haven't already, I'd talk directly with the dealership that did the work and ask them what the reason for the replacement was. Let them tell you it was from bad stitching and lack of driving. I don't know, something just sounds a little fishy.

my 02 has 7k miles on it with factory rotors and pads and i have no problems.the only thing i can think of is if the car sat outside and the rotors got a build up of rust on them....

The vette just sits in his garage as far as the rotor problem even though it's in the past, the problem was that the brakes would surge. Whatever that means. It's supposed to have been fixed already.

But keep this in mind that he buys a lot of cars himself and his family which is huge from the same dealer.

What he did before his 36/36 warranty expired was to bring it back in and complain.

He also is giving me a GMPP Major Guard zero ded until 4/07. All l have to pay to get it into my name is $35.

The work he did stops after 36/36. He probably is a dealerships worst nightmare.

By the way there is no rust on the rotors, l saw the pic's as of last week.


But anytime you buy a used car "buyer beware".

And again when he brought it in because the drivers seat would rock which is common it is listed as seat repair. This is so that GM compensates them.

One of my friends had a squeeky steering wheel and the dealership just used grease to correct it and the report read replaced steering wheel something or another.

I recently purchased my 01 Z06 in Chicago, i live in Atlanta. My trip went like this:

Friday evening i packed a back pack with a small balanket, travel pillow, two cd books, Passport 8500 (radar detector), a book, and a bottle of water. Saturday morning i got up at 5am and was out of the house by 5:30, and was on the train to the airport by 6am. 6:45am i hit the airport, no luggage to check went right through security grabbed breakfast at the Atlanta Bread Co. 8am the flight left and arrived in Chicago at 10am (one way ticket with Air Tran was only $85 after taxes ). The sales reppicked me up on his way into work and by noon i was on the road. 750 miles, 3 stops, and 11 hours later i was home washing my Z06 at 11pm in the driveway under the flood lights.

It was a great trip which i enjoyed. It gave me ample time to figure out how all the accesories work. The only thing that would have made it better was if i had someone to share the driving with. BTW after owning my Z06 for only about 3 hours i hit 140mph somewhere in the middle of Indiana. Gotta love these cars.

Buy two tickets, chances are they will be cheap flying one way and make a day trip out of it(if you are concerned about price i am sure you can work a deal out with the guy for him to pay part of the airfare). Better yet look at a map and see if there are any touristy areas along the route and make a romatic weekend getaway out of it. That was my initial plan but my wife had to work that Saturday.

The Atlanta trek.

First of all l am coming from New Jersey and here we have New Jersey Transit And not Marta, Marta only costs $1.75 and my trip to the only airport that goes to Ohio costs at least $75. Plus the airfare. It takes at least 2 1/2 hrs to the airport. Your trip from North Sandy Springs takes maybe 45 minutes.

Between Ohio and New Jersey there is zippo but a lot of snow. Boring!

Today in Atlanta it was warming up a little but for the past several days it was like living in New Jersey except for the snow.

Also as an FYI - I have heard of people going to Ohio and never returning .....

have a safe trip, loosen up a little and drive the wheels off that thing!

That be me!!! boy do I dislike Jersey Ohio boring as it may be beats NJ any day.

The roads you will have to travel (PA turnpike/rt 80) will be clear unless there is more snow during your travels. I have been back East twice during the winter months with the Vette and didn't have any problems.

Fly out and drive back isn't there an airport in AC?

just drive the car and don't worry about the damn thing. I was thinking about selling my 97 but after moving 2 cars to Arkansas there is no way I'am selling. Leaving AZ 02/26/06 heading for Arkansas. 40K if I have problems OH WELL.
