I've been doing bodywork and have the big block hood pretty much completely prepped. I have a question. The stock locking hood bracket I have is too long and does not allow the hood to shut.

Unless I drill and tap new holes for the existing bracket (more toward to middle of the side rail of the hood), I can't see how it would function properly.

Do I have to use a different bracket for a big block hood? I checked some Corvette catalogs and there only appears to be one style of bracket for the 69 Vettes. Weird stuff. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Ralph

To my knowledge, there is no separate hood support for big block hoods, but there are different hood supports for different models years and different mounting points on hoods. Sounds as if your new hood was pulled from a different model year.

It was off of a 69 coupe - but I am not sure if the bracket is a 69. Mike, would you do me a favor? Would please measure the length of your hood bracket arm on your 68 Vette? I did see that the 68 might have been different.

Thank you... this is crazy.:crazy

So it's not the hood style...

I checked out Zips and found out the the 69 hood support bracket is shorter than the 1968 version...

Since my car's assembly date is December 20, 1968 would it be POSSIBLE that it was assembled using some 1968 parts (such as the longer hood support bracket)?

Possibly. Left inner skirt could also be a '68 leftover. Can't help with measuring my hood support; it is not original. I suspect the hood on my car is a '69 since the car had a '69 doghouse on it when I bought the car. That's gone now, but I kept the hood.
