I would have said BSM but people like the Blackvette would have NEVER figured this thread out.

Moving on with my question??? If i were to take off my BSM whats up under it?
Is it glued on? Rivited on? After removal will i need to have holes filled at the body shop?

Just having some thoughts of taking it off the Z16.

NO BV you cant have it for your car!!! So quit sending PM's asking me for it since its MINE:D

If you removed your BSM, you would find rats and roaches! Only in your junker!

Just my opinion.

I've removed two sets so far. Very easy. Heat with blow drier. Run fishing line under to separate, then pull off slowly. Clean doors with 3m adhesive and label remover, then polish and wax area.

You will find no holes or any damage (unless you do damage removing the BSM).

They are held on with the molding adhesive strips - and as has been stated - a good 14lb test monofilament line will do the trick.

Some have found that the car has faded slightly, so the area under the BSM could be less faded and thus show up as a darker line down the car - but I have never seen this.

I like BSM's personally.

best regards -

It's really very easy. Just get a large slot head screw driver or wood chisel, pry it under one end of the BSM, then hammer the screw driver along the BSM as it pulls away from the car. Then, have the car repainted Torch Red or some other decent color.. :L

Tony's T:

I've been researching this some. I'm going to remove mine, hopefully Sunday. I'll post lots of pics when I do.
From what I have read, there is tape underneath that can be removed, with some elbow grease.

Here are a couple of threads that I've bookmarked about the subject:

Wonderful responses on the BSM removal and i appreciate the solution..... I cant wait to look into taking this off. I have seen alot of Z06's without the BSM and i like the looks better. I dont park next to anyone so i dont worry about door chips.

Thanks again and if anyone with a Z16 has done this post a pic because i would like to see if there is a color change after removal.

thanks T. T.

HEY Roadfrog can i try your method on your RED Z?????

Tony, no problem on TRYING that method on my car at all!! Can you run faster than 3000 ft. per second?? That's about what would be coming at you from a 20 round clip. I always try to accomodate my friends!! :L

I have seen the fading before on other vehicles. Generally everyday vehicles that are not garaged and have high mileage. Have a friend with a 99 tahoe forest green 140K miles. Where the moulding was is now darker than the rest of the truck, almost looks like a racing stripe, also it was textured like the paint started to bubble then got cooked and hardened.

I have a 01' Tahoe 30K miles. Took off the moulding. no color change underneath.

Wonderful info

Tony... be nice now!!

You won't feel a thing or even hear the muzzle blast. I even bought and overnighted a couple cases of red Krylon to ya so you can make your Vette look better before I squeeze the trigger. It might even reach ya from here if I sight in from on top of the mountain I live on. :D
