I was driving behind a friend of mine going down a hill with the brake on but when i was about to come to a stop at the sign I heard a popping sound and i had to use two feet on the brake pedal to actually get the car to come to a complete stop. So I pulled over to check every thing out and the master cylinder seemed to be fine but when i push on the pedal just a little a hissing sound comes from the pedal. Can anyone help my 86?????

Exact same thing happen to my '89. GM wants over $400 for em....:r way too much...got mine at Advance Auto for $130 with lifetime warrenty.... A real PITA too replace...right up there with the heater core.....you need 1/4" drive w/two swevels to access right side nut on booster and when you install new one make sure the push rod is the EXACT same length as the one that came out....good luck with it..!!! :w

Thanks for the info ya GM out here wanted 689 not including tax but i got it for 178.

A bit of searching would have saved you a bunch.....Zip products sells a rebuild kit for the booster, for both styles, for 50.00...
After the same thing happened to me I just rebuilt mine, works just like new....then I bought another kit to keep as a spare. It is rather simple to rebuild, took all of 30 minutes, the fun part is the reinstall...
