Bubba liked fender bolts

I've been replaceing a lot of incorrect bolts on my '66. It's been going pretty good until I got to the rear bumper area. Since I had to remove the spare tire hub to get at some of the bolts I figured I'd add the 4 bolts that hold to tub on to my list of needed items. Well, Bubba liked fender bolts. I ran a 5/16-24 tap through and crossed my fingers but no dice, the bolts won't bite. Can a helicoil be used to solve this problem? I've always thougth of helicoils as fixes for problems with aluminum.

I've used them in steel and cast. Wonderful invention it is

Checkout Keenserts. Much, Much nicer than helicoils.
