Oh crud, I bought one of them for $6 too. Haven't received it yet but now I expect the worst...:mad
Expect the worst, don't believe you'll be disappointed!:eyerole But, be happy it's only $6 plus shipping, could be worse!:) :beer

I bought my Camaro offline
The Highest bidder was a no-show,

The seller emailed me, and we worked something out

Since acquiring my 62 'Vette I have become a big eBay fan. I found my 'Vette on ebay, but not "officially" buy it on line. I flew to Albequeque to see it and then made the deal. Since them I have probably bought 50+ items related to my 'Vette on eBay. Also tools to work on her. Although i have bought many parts on eBay, I see a lot of people bidding, and paying more for a part than what they would pay at Corvette America or Corvette Central. So, as stated earlier, know what your buying, know the "street" price, and bid accordingly. OH! And the best deals can be had when the auction close mid week. Too mnay people "sitting" at their computer on the weekend, driving the prices up.

Buying on ebay

There is a 1962 on ebay listed March 1, 2004 with a one day listing. The listing indicates the car is in Hawaii and asks for a deposit before shipping. The same car is listed on another Corvette site as being in Pasadena, California. The pictures show a car with Texas tags and a location that sure does not look like Hawaii. Several questionable issues with this ad. It may be legimate, but this is an example of why, when considering an ebay purchase, you should inspect the vehicle before any money changes hands. I have inspected two Corvettes listed on ebay and neither where what the advertisement indicated. Needless to say, but I did not purchase either.

Hey Richard -
Give us some links!

I run into this with computer gear. Usually if you ask to come by and inspect or pick the item up in person, then you find out quickly that its a hoax.

We usually will post the link of the auction or the seller's info so others know to avoid them or at least be cautious.

Thanks for the heads up,
Rain

I wrote him at the ady attached to the Ebay auction.
Told him I was in the area and would love to stop by and check out his fine 68.
I also asked if it had 7800 or 78,000 miles on it, since those 2 auctions have the same pics, but diff. miles.
haha, wonder if he will reply

Rain(thanks Richard - good eye!)

Buying on ebay update

I was contacted by the legal owner of the 1962 Corvette listed on ebay as being in Hawaii. The owner and car are in Pasadena, CA. It came from Texas. The owner reported the fraud to ebay as did I. I asked the ebay listed owner for information as to the car's location and was told it was garaged in Hawaii. I have made an appointment to inspect it in Pasadena. Ebay needs to have a better process for screening ads for high dollar items like Corvettes. But, the final responsibility is the buyer's. We need to investigate and inspect the vehicle and not let any money change hands until a clear title and the car are secured.

I noticed the Ebay auction closed, and then was relisted.. and then pulled.

Guess he was gonna try to do it again using the same car?

Glad ya got the real scoop on the location of the vette -

Thanks again
Rain

I saw a 62 with this same profile: low price and a "pre-approved" bidder list. I don't understand.

Fraud ALERT.

Don't buy any car from ebay without touching the car!!

WATCH OUT.

I will never buy a car (corvette...whatever) on Ebay! You are buying damaged goods in most cases.

Bill.

Not Sure

I'd imagine you need a certain # of transactions or a verified bank accout or something for the preapproved part, but I DO NOT get the buy it now price of $16,000 AND free shipping!!! Something DOES NOT, I REPEAT, DOES NOT add up here!!!:confused I placed this one in my items to watch, I've GOT to see what happens here.

Based On What?

What do you base that statement on? I have to disagree having bought a car from there and knowing a few others that have too and they are as I am, very happy. It's buyer beware any time you buy used, NOT just on eBay.

Guys, I have bought many parts for my vettes on ebay successfully and been completely happy with them. But as Rowdy1 says, a red flag goes off on an apparently nice '66 at such a low price.

I have bought numerous parts on Ebay and 99% have been as stated but like evryone else says you have to do your reseach as well.I actually bought mine from yahoo classifieds as they stay on there for about 3 months. It was still on after 2 1/2 and I contacted seller and made a deal with him.It wasn't as represented but then I didn't pay much at all for it as he was hurting for cash by then.

I then turned around and bought an 81 for $3,000 on yahoo auctions and had it shipped from San Jose to Houston (cost $500.00).Had to do some rewiring as they had some backwoods mechanic put in alarm system and messed up everything so I guess the seller thought it was motor as couldn't get it to run right. They had damaged wiring from computer!!Turned around and sold it on Ebayer to a local buyer! They were very happy with it and got it for a great price as well.
I would never buy from an unregistered Ebayer as thats looking for trouble.Always look at the feedback as well as how much the shipping is going to be and how long it takes them to get feedback back from buyer.I have even emailed buyers to ask them if they were satisfied with their purchase.
That pre-approved stuff is off the wall.I emailed a seller with that and they wanted to sell me a $12,000 embroidery machine for $1,500.00 and they were going to pay the shipping. Was listed in USA but they were in Italy!! I turned down that deal!!
In general Ebay is a buyer beware auction and if you don't see it and feel it you are flipping a coin but for the most part I think alot of the sellers will work out any problems you might have with your purchase especially if you pay for it using Paypal which will help you out if need be!

I bought my car from eBay... it's just buyer beware.. LIKE ANY AUCTION!
Do your homework... if you don't... you are a prime candidate for a scam.

and then there a people like you and I, reporting scams to eBay.
(Thanks to all of you who do!)

FYI: the '66 on eBay
