This is the seller response to an email:
Hello there,
Thank you for your interest in purchasing my item .
First of all I must inform you that currently I'm in Portugal and the
machine is here with me .My faher, who died two keeks ago was the first
owner of the car; He bought it directly from a local dealership in Ohio.
The machine is in great condition ,only 79147 miles on it,no damage,no
scratches or dents, no hidden defects, keept in our own garage.
The machine is an US model with US specs,it passed the test
emissions and comes with all the documents you need to register the
item.
It has a clear title and it can be registerd into your name.
I recently ordered a new car from a dealer down here and i
need the cash in the next few days to pay for it.
The price I hope to obtain is $16,000 USD (this price includes the
shipping and insurance) and if you agree with this price we can start to
complete the transaction. I have to tell you that I have other serious offers that I
have to consider and I will make a decision regarding this sale function of
time of payment and price.
i will shipp the car using KLM 5-7 air days delivery, and i will cover all taxes.
We can make this COD, but if you want to keep the car for you,
then you have to make a down deposit with 3,000 USD.
So email me back if you ae intersted and you have the cash.
The car will be shipped from Portugal and i will cover the shipping
costs and insurance. You will not have to pay additional taxes, just only the
price for it.

The previous 1962 I reported to be listed on ebay in Hawaii, but on Vette Hound in Pasadena, CA was in fact in Pasadena. The ebay listing was a fraud. The owner and I both reported the problem to ebay. I inspected the Corvette in Pasadena and authenticated the correct location and owner of this car. Today, March 10, there is another listing for a 1962, two owner, silver FI Corvette, with buy now price of $23,500. This Corvette is also listed with Auto Trader for $49,900. This appears to be another fraud. I have reported this to ebay and alerted the listing owner with Auto Trader. As to the previous ebay listing, I understand from the real owner that after the first one day listing it was listed again. Unfortunately, for someone they sent the deposit before the add could be pulled. This was after the owner and I reported the fraud. There does not seem to be any security review of these listings on ebay.

My experience with Ebay: 2 years ago I bid and won a 94 Polo Green Conv. LT1 located in Arkansas. The car was listed as a one owner and had a clear title. I e-mailed the seller and he wanted me to send him $1,000 deposit within 3 days. I told him I would be there to pick up the car within that time period and would pay him cash if the car was all that he said it was. I gave him my cell phone number and told him to call me on the road if there were any problems. This all transpired on a Thursday. Friday I left Richmond to go get the car and never heard a thing from him so assumed all was okay. Saturday we were in Missouri heading to Arkansas when the phone rang and it was the seller. He said he could not sell me the car as it did not have a clear title. Gave me some lame excuse that he was acting as a broker and the owner relatives had taken a second mortgage out on the owners house and put the car up as collateral. Something to do with her being sick or something and had to have money to pay hospital bills. This guy was a power seller on E-bay. I told him that he should have know that all along and that I was reporting him to Ebay for fraud. He didn't offer to reimburse me the cost of the trip even though I asked. Reported all this to Ebay and they so much as said they didn't care. They made out like it was my fault that the guy lied to me and the other bidders. My take on this was that my bid (no reserve) was too low and he found someone else to give him more money. I have not used Ebay since and won't. The concept is good but too many con artists are using it to bilk us of our hard earned cash.

I just got this email from Ebay re: a purchase I made a few weeks ago, and that I am now trying to get a refund on.

The following listing:

####################(item description)

was removed by eBay because a Verified Right Owner (VeRO) Program participant notified eBay that the listing infringes its copyright, trademark or other rights. We strongly urge you not to complete this transaction.

You can get more information on the VeRO Program at:

Fraud attempts

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2466331153&category=6168

Buy it now for only US $12,000.00.

Look at this amazing offer! Looking through ebay I have noticed that there are more and more fraud attempts like this. And I only look in the Corvette section!

I try to report this to ebay but they make it difficult. Had to look a long time to send an email and you have to be registered.

I also noticed that all these fraud attempts are featured cars and they use carads.com!

You would think that ebay would have a way to prevent these ads.

This morning 3/13 on ebay was the aution close for a set of 1965 door panels. The panels had a "Buy it Now" price of $200. I could not believe that the winning bid was over $250. Three people during the last few minutes of the auction bid over .... instead of clicking "Buy It Now" and ending the auction! What was that about!!! ... I sent an email to the winner asking what he was thinking . I'll be interested if I get a reply ....Ed

It's Easy........

You have a reserve in your mind (the seller) and if you don't get it, you have a friend or two bid it up at the last few minutes and hope you can catch some unsuspecting bidder in a bidding frenzy and BINGO!!! If it doesn't happen, you're friend doesn't want the item so you wait a little and relist it.;)

Typically 'Buy it Now' only works until bids are placed. Once someone places a bid this option goes away. FYI

Hmmm, I thought that the buy it now stayed until the reserve is met. :confused

I would guess its a hi-jacked account.
Shes got a Vette and a Farrari listed for sale with 100$ bids..
and the only thing shes sold in the past are knock off purses and wallets..

just my opinion after 10 seconds of looking...

Why do idiots do this? Wouldn't all emails go to the 'real' person? How do they plan on getting the money if they can't communicate with the buyer?

I also bought my 02 F-350 XLT Super Duty long bed Power Stroke Diesel ext. cab on eBay. Found it in Buffalo NY along with 60 others coming from a fleet. Again, MANY emails, a few phone calls, a ride up to check it out and leave the deposit. Took a train to there to pick it up, the dealer picked me up at the station, took me to lunch, went back did the deal and drove it home the next day after a stay over at a local hotel. I looked for months and couldn't come close to what I got for what I paid. At the time they were going for $36K with more mileage than mine, I got mine for $28,000.;) I told a few of my friends about them, two of which bought trucks, and got another $1,000 off mine as a finders bonus.
Do they have a website?? Do they have Crew cab dually SD's??

Rain, what is a hijacked account? It certainly sounds like something illegal. What advantage is there for the seller to list this way?

About 4 to 6 weeks ago alot of ebay folks got an email (looked official) asking to up date your ebay information.people were responding to this email with there ebay name and pass word.the crooks then just hi jacked the account and updated all the information they wanted to as in emails and where to send checks to. So know they chose the accounts with good feed back and not alot of activity. Once the account was high jacked you would not know it was high jacked untill you logged in.

we have a fellow at work and he was telling me of the email and asking If I got one.(this was long before all these bogus ebay sales came on)
I am not saying the ebay listing is above is bogus I havent looked into it yet.

But I had told my co worker something was funney and he should change his password asap.Sure enoght he never did.2 weeks ago he treid to log on and was locked out of his account.I logged on to my account and search his user name and he was selling a large peice of earth moving equiptment with a buy it now at about a 1/4 of its proper value. So if anybody reading this updated your ebay information by responding to an email supposedly from ebay CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD NOW

Note: This listing is restricted to pre-approved bidders or buyers only.

All of the bogus ebay advertizements I have seen in the last 3 weeks have started with the above note.Drop them an email and if there located out of the country and need a 3000.00 deposit its a fraud

At least they are using more realistic prices.

Normally they are copping the advertizement for stuff for sale off of other online places then just cut and pasting into a ebay auction

They must be getting some money sent to them to continue doing it.

In thinking about it I am suprized ebay has not actually posted a note of this on there sign in page stating if you responded to a email to up date your account to chane your password .Or at least explain to some folks about this fraud that running rampant thru out ebay not just in collector cars

yea, looks like Ebay shut down the auction for the vette and farrari

Ebay usually doesnt police this from what I can tell, They wait for several complaints before taking action.
