I got too aggressive when buffing up one side of the C2 center console. I was working and talking. At my age I should know I can't do two things at once. :crazy

Depending on the angle of view, you can see marks in the polished side. I presume the '67 console is "white" metal, and although the sides look like chrome, I'm uncertain of the correct terminology.

Is it possible to remove swirl marks that cannot be felt and can only be seen by changing your angle of view? If so, how? :)

I too am sorry for your mishap and also only do two things at one time with great caution. Maybe your painter might have a solution for you like wet sanding in one direction with 3000 grit... Don't do this till you check with him as it is only a shoot from the hip suggestion. Good luck and I'm sure you will find a solution.

I believe it is chrome plated, but I'm not sure if there is anything you can use to remove the marks from chrome. Best of luck, maybe someone wiser than me will have the solution.

rlm :)

I am guessing the console is diecast that has been chrome plated and you may have "buffed" the chrome off. That may be one of those things that when assembled only you will be able to detect it. Most likely it will bother you more then anyone. I would suspect you could have it rechromed if you wanted to.

in the meantime to dull your ache have a little fun with it::D
Put it together take a picture of it and then have someone with a perfect one take a picture of his and have a contest to see if any of us can spot it.:L

Don't be too hard on yourself you are doing what most only dream about:upthumbs

Bob, Having at one time worked in the chroming industry, I know that once the chrome surface is damaged in any way there is no goin' back. It can be re-chromed but I like bossvette's contest idea.

here is a hard luck story for you, maybe it will make you feel better. I have a 52 ford pickup that I spent 2 years working on back in the late 80's early 90's 3" chop, 2" channel; fiberglass 1 piece front end, hot 383; did all the work myself except the trans. Had it in primer and fired the engine up, broke it in and was trying to drive it in the driveway; it would go fine in reverse but seemed like it was locking up in drive (th 350) and barely creeped forward.
Since I had been pushing the thing around for 2 years I wanted to drive it and was upset the trans wasn't working correctly ($400 performance rebuild). when I revved the engine it would creep forward so I started to put it in the garage when the trans hooked up and the truck took of like a BOOH in my panic to stop it I jammed my foot on the brake and caught more of the gas pedal instead.:nono
It put a 3 foot dia hole in the back wall of the garage when it hit, busted the front end off the hinges and up against the windshield. I was sick:cry and didn't even want to look at the front of the truck but except for a few scratches it was OK (lucky me it was in primer).
2 weeks later I had a stock th-350 in it and took it to the alignment shop to get the Fatman front end aligned and the rear drained and new posi fluid put in the 86 f-body rear. They didn't have any posi fluid so they didn't do the rear. When I picked it up it was close to the time my wife took her lunch break so I decided to drive by where she worked to "show off". As I pulled away from the stop sign near where she worked I nailed it spinning the tires and then "BANG" snapped the pinion off:L
I still have the truck I replaced the stock gears with richmonds and drove it with the 383 until I moved to Ohio where I put a 305 back in it for gas milage reasons. It has been a dependable driver for the most part, but has been neglected since I bought the Vette I am putting a 700R-4 in it getting it ready for Craig jr who will be driving soon; this is the only picture I could find of it as it was done in pre-digital days
