I have a 1995 C4 corvette and i find the lights at night very dim and almost yellow.
Not being a Mechanically minded person I decieded to look in the instruction Manual to see how i could remove the globe and go to town to get a more powerful set.

Reading the manual it appears that all other globes in the vehicle can be relpaced EXCEPT for the headlamp globes.
It seems to be that one must replace the whole lamp unit (lense, reflector and Globe).

Is this true or can I just go out and get brighter globes.

Please would someone help me with this as I cannot use my baby at night and being Summer with the roof off.......

Could someone please "shed some light" on this?

Headlight replacement

Yeah, you gotta do some work, allot an hour each for vettes have sealed beam headlights, whether they be standard tungsten or halogen. The yellow is a sign that they are aging, be prepared. You can get replacement sests which have the smaller globes which are inserted from the rear. I don't know what the rand dollar exchange, but would plan on $40 per light to go that way, and still an hour apiece.

Thanx! This is super.

I will forward the feedback.

I might also suggest that you check for a poor ground near the headlights themselves. This often times causes lower voltage to the lights which may make them dimmer and thus more yellow looking. I think some years of Corvette are more prone to grounding problems than others. You may need a wiring diagram to determine where the various ground are located or a quick look-see might do it, but it might be worth the time to find and clean them (remove the screw that runs through the terminal into the metal frame, use some fine emery paper on them) and put them back (using dielectric grease if you have some). :-)

The headlights you are talking about are Sealed Beam headlights, there are conversion kits out there to make it so you can just replace the bulb, however, you will have to pay a little more in the beginning for the kit, then just buy the bulbs as needed. I have a Pilot brand conversion kit on my '93, and haven't had any trouble, couldn't find that kit on Mid America Designs or Ecklers, but here is something that is close

Headlight conversion Kit

As for the bulbs, the Sylvania Silverstar's are awesome for clarity and range, here's a link for them, you can buy them at this web site also, just scroll down towards the bottom of the screen and click "Buy Now".
