C4 vs C5 performance

In a straight line, I'm convinced his C2 would beat my C5...

Yep, I'd say the '66 would probably take your stock '04 in a straight line, but tweak your '04 a bit like you stated the '66 is or use the following less HP'd/torqued C5 LS6 #'s against the tweaked '66 427/425 hp/415 lb-ft and number's say the C5 rules as expected for a later model performance Vette. :cool

YES - They're all good, but this thread was/is: "C4 vs C5 performance" :upthumbs

Concur 100%! I have a buddy who owns a mid-year C2 (1966 convertible with a 427/4-speed). It's a very well-maintained "driver" with a few minor performance tweaks, and he's turned the keys over to me on occasion.

In a straight line, I'm convinced his C2 would beat my C5; in a turning dual, my C5 would run away from his C2. Regardless, I was still grinning from ear to ear while driving it. But the coolness factor of driving a classic Corvette was enough to ensure that! :thumb

Thats not entirely true. In the book "Corvette Files" by Motor Trend magazine they did an article pitting a 68 427 roadster with three deuces, against a stock 99 c5 hardtop

the numbers were as follows.

68 427 roadster 0-60 6.3 1/4 mile 14.1/103.0

99 hardtop 0-60 4.8 1/4 mile 13.3/108.6

also in the same issue a c2 427 tri-power stingray ran 0-60 in 5.5 and did the 1/4 mile in 13.8/104.0 top speed 143 mph

But these C4's were very bad ass 13 second rides
and I loved them.

Ooooo, there's one of those for sale right now at Corvettes Only in Denver. He wants 18,500 or so. I wish I could justify spending the cash and also convince my wife to give up her parking space in the garage for it. Dang.

I have actually toyed with the idea of selling my C5 and getting it, but then I just couldn't do it. I really love my 'vert!

Do you recall what the conditions of the test were? I would imagine traction was an issue for the 427. :)

That sounds like an excellent price. I've seen a few while doing searches and usually the prices are at least 15k higher than what you've seen.

I believe the conditions were dry (Southern California) But the article did say that the 99 just outdid the 68 in every way. Straight line, handling

"it outaccelerates,out-brakes,and handily out handles the legendary mako shark"

Hey Gang

Have we given up on insulting each other? Come on...we must have a little "in your face" left.:L
