crash

Doug, Being a State cop to me is an unenvyable job. Most people can't relate, either because they have been cited more than once or their just too blind to see, and of course ,it's not thier fault. Since I'm a career firefighter/EMT I have reduced many auto's to rubble in an attempt to remove it's operator, vette's included. I have had 5 vette's in my life and KNOW from experience that they are very sensitive to slippery conditions as was my 5.0 Mustang. Personally I could care less if someone drives thier vette on the moon. but goodluck is preperation meeting necessity and debating wether a vette is good in the snow silly. Anyone know were I can get a tow hitch for my 427 Tri-Power ? Ha-Ha , just kidding.

I think it's a little amusing to tell others they shouldn't drive a vette in the snow because there's a danger of crashing it... and then heading out to race on a road course... or jam around at 170 mph on an oval... or... you get the point.

The life of a car is a dangerous one. There are so many hazards out there coming from every direction. Vette people love their cars to death. And it makes us twitchy to hear about them in peril. But the only way to keep your vette safe is to keep it in the hangar all the time. And that changes it from a sports car to an art piece. Nonfunctional.

What good is the car when you're not driving it?

If it's particularly hazardous out there, then be more careful than usual. The vette isn't _that_ bad in bad weather.

It's weak bad weather handling is largely because of the wide tires. I don't live in an area that gets snow, but has anyone in snowy areas thought of buying a narrower set of wheels and tires for snow? I would expect that a vette with narrow tires and maybe some dead weight in the back would drive dandy in the snow.

i've driven my Corvette in the snow plenty of times, especially when I first got it. I never would let snow hold me back from driving the car if I had to. With that said and having some mustang 5.0 bad weather driving experience under my belt I knew that I would have to watch myself out there.

Any car can wipe out in any given condition, but with wide low profile tires and mega torque you have to be extra carefull or stuff like this can happen.

I have not driven in the snow for about 3 years or so and proabbly will never unless im forced to.

crash

Skant, I do not recall anyone saying not to drive in the snow, my point was that a vette is not the best choice when the snow flies, if you have to drive it ,drive it.

Re: crash

I realy do blame myself for this but not because of my driving, because I didn't pay attention to the weather report. My company has no problem with renting a car if it's necessary to drive to a business meeting. The cost of the rental car usually is less than what they pay me in mileage. I drove out there without even checking the weather, and when I got to Dayton it was dry as a bone. 3.5 hours later it was slicker than owl poop. The interstate itself was in good condition but the exit lane was not. The transition was the problem. Oh well, now it gets fixed, and I got home in one piece to my wife and kids. All in all a good day. Plus I helped close a million dollar deal! :)

Boo Hoo Hoo. Take a poll, and we'll see how many drive their Vette's in the winter. I'll bet that the majority have beaters, SUV's, or "daily drivers" and chose to keep their Vettes NICE. Not "show cars", or "garage queens" , but NICE CARS. You saved your whole life , or dreamed your whole life about owning this car, now you want to wreck it by taking it out in the snow? Once your car's crashed, it's never the same. The salt? What it does to undercarriages isn't pretty. Say what you will, it's got nothing to do with BEING ABLE to drive it in the snow, it's about being SENSIBLE and preserving your investment. To me, anyone who's out in the winter, cruising in the salt/sand/snow doesn't truly CARE about their car, it's just another vehicle...Disposable.

If you don't like other people's opinions, start your own forum. This is America, people's opinoins don't have to match yours. And, judging by your disposition, and your user name, I don't see any need to justify your remarks. But, it was quite an intelligent retort you made, learn that on SmackDown Thursday?
Edit: I just noticed, on your profile, that you can't even spell CORVETTE correctly. And, for some odd reason, I'M the idiot? At least I have a job.

Doug,

Consider this one last warning....you want to express your opinions here - fine. If you want to flame someone, go start your own forums and flame people all you want. DON'T DO IT IN MY FORUMS.

See ya! I now understand why the guys on the 'other' forums, you know, the ones with the babes, are saying this boards a failure.. Good ridance.. And Pig, good luck with those Hooked On Fonix lessons.

Considering that I don't think you are who you say you are, based upon the IP addresses that are attached to you logging in to these forums(ATT&T Broadband NORTHEAST and Cogeco Cable, Inc out of Montreal, CANADA) - I have a feeling, you aren't from San Diego. And if I'm wrong....oh well, you and your attitude are out of here. CYA.

I am way to scared to drive my Vette in the snow. Even though the video tape from Chevy that came with the car shows lots of footage of how well the ASR works in snow, the one thing that still scares me is--- All those A-Holes in their SUVs that think the laws a physics dont apply to them. Going 65 in the ice and snow in your daddys new Escalade just wont work, and the total ignorance about the capabilities of SUVs shown by so many drivers is why I drive my Bonneville in the winter.

Well! This certainly turned out to be more than I ever intended it to be. So much for sharing experiences around here!

Don't take it personally NotSlo. Some people are just too full of themselves. MOST of us here at the CAC are here for the atmosphere Rob provides. IMHO, TRUE Corvette enthusiasts support each other, regardless of when or how they drive their vettes. Others, well they put a lot of hype into their opinions, and nothing anyone else says is ever correct. Just know most of us, in fact I would argue to say the majority of us, are glad you are ok and can have the vette fixed.

Rob,
Can you do me a favor and lock this thread up? It's outlived it's usefulness I'm afraid.

That's highly entertaining...making fun of someone else for a possible over sight in spelling, yet can't even manage to spell phonics correctly (based off of the root word phonetic);LOL
Not to flame anyone else, but I for one am glad to see him go. Don't let the perverbial door hit you in the :booty on the way out!
