Hi guys and gals,

I am new on here, looking for a key fob for my car, it just stop working thinking it was a battery needing to be replace. Went and bought and replace the battery and resynchronized the fob. It's not communicating. I tried it all day and finally got it to work then it lost the memory somehow and now I am back to square one. I think it's a bad key fob, my other one won't work at all now. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Anyone have a good used key fob I can buy from please let me know. Thx

It sounds like there's a broken solder joint on the fob circuit board. If you have a low power soldering pencil, remove the battery from the fob, and then remelt the solder at each joint on the board. If you see a dark ring around one of the leads where it attaches to the PC board you've probably found a questionable joint. I've repaired several fobs in this way.

Good Luck :w

I've had problems with my key fob too. If you hold down the top two buttons on the key fob for a few seconds, you should hear your horn honk once which will let you know that it's reset. I still don't know what is causing my problem but at least I now know how to reset it... Good luck!

Thank you Rob,
I am not sure either, I did hold down the lock and unlock buttons but nothing happen. I just about to give up on this. As much as I paid for this vehicle from Chevy, it should not have not fail I found out through many forum that these C5 key fob really have a problem. And the only way it will work again is to buy a new one through your dealership. Very expensive!!!!!!!!!

I need help

Anyone on here have a non-working key fob for C5 with 1997-2000 I like to buy it.
I did have the same problem. As much as I hate going to the dealer I did not have the equipment to check the fobs. The dealer told me both of my fobs were bad, and they ordered a new one $100.00, and guess what it didn't work. At that point I figured the receiver was bad. I converted to a 2001-2004 receiver which also came with four new, 2001-2004, tire pressure sensors. The whole package is about the same cost as a new 2000 receiver. I got the whole package including the wires need from GMPARTSHOUSE.com in Boyertown Pa. 484-949-2099, for 417.96, a new 2000 receive is 395.00, (it's a one year only). Also, I do have a new 2000 fob and two 2000 fobs that came with the car, that may or may not work. Hope this helps, daddy1

daddy1, thank you for posting here with the insight that you have. I'd also like to welcome you to CAC. :w You'll find this a very friendly place.
