C6 - ferrari ripoff!

I don't understand why everyone is saying there are only a couple of different ways to put fixed headlamps on a car, and that is why the cars look similar... There are many many cars out there that have fixed headlamps that look different. This is why no one is comparing the Corvette to the the RX-8 or the 350Z. The 350Z keeps the modern day technology (aerodynamics etc.) while keeping a look of its own. The C6 doesn't seem to have quite the same distinction. (again, I am not saying I am going to mistake the C6 for another car, just that it has some parts that seem copied)

I have to admit, I have said [more than half a year ago] that the new C6 will resemble a Ferrari. I see cues from the 360 and especially the 550/575M. Still, the Corvette is all it's own. I don't think people who know their cars will have to make a double-take to realize what just flew by them. ;)

Yes, it resembles a couple Ferrari models and yes, it has some of the same cues as a Viper (IMO). But I would not consider it a rip-off. As many have mentioned earlier, the reasons high-end sportscars are looking similar is probably due to aerodynamic research. I think the C6 looks great.....GM deserves a round of applause (IMO). They took a car [C5] was great and made it better. If one considers the C5 to be a Corvette, then the C6 will remain just that.

:v

That reminds me that I just read an article in a hard cover book (one of the many I read over and over and over and...)

The article mentioned a review of the 1968 that stated the rear end looked like GM robbed quite a bit from the Ferrari...and GM admitted it actually did just that.

Rob has a lot of patience to address the comments of the original poster of this thread. Everyone has the right to subjective opinions, but this thread is simply not worth the time to rip.

BTW Rob, the new format is cool. :cool :upthumbs

I think we've all been patient about the originator's comments.

We had fun poking back and stating facts. There wasn't any bad slamming. I think this thread is an excellent one.

The best part was that the thread starter didn't get the best of any of us.

I responded to another thread in this forum where they said the C6 looked like an RX-8. Posting both cars together it was obvious they shared nothing.

no kidding... I am surprised anyone tried to make that comparison... LOL

I must first admit that I like the look of the C6 (still trying to remind the wife how it was with the C5 the first time we saw one - maybe it will grow on her once there's one in the garage). That said, I have seen a recurring theme in the threads stating that part of the new look was based on the car's cd of .28 and I must thank the designers for not trying to get a lower cd than .28. Again, reading the threads you too will notice that a large number of people are not too fond of the new design. I would hope that the same people that dislike the new design will think twice once they realize that if Chevy gone for a cd of .26 we would now be looking at a four door similar to the Toyota Prius (yes, several sources reflect this lower cd including the Toyota website). I can deal with a car looking closer to a Viper than a Prius (going with the theory of cd being the driving force behind the shape of the car and thus forceing the similarity).
Have a good evening all, just thought I would bring-up a humorous fact. :L :L

Hardly looks like a Modena to me. These are all great cars, so any likeness is flattery and nothing more. I'd love to own all three(if money were no object). I say viva the C6!!!

GM should be applauded for what they wanted to accomplish with the C6. They took aim at all of the C5 problem areas, interior quality, more sophistication, options.... and finally they decided to trim all the excess fat that will make it more desirable to the european market. C6 is several inches shorter while maintaining all if not more interior room. Love the fact that it is only an inch longer than a current 911. (The majority of all export sales are in Germany).

Not to mention more POWER, 400 base Hp for starters which will finally post current Z06 performance numbers that will be in the same league as Porsche and Ferrari at less than half the price. This is what Zora Duntov had envisioned all along. The C6 has some borrowed styling features from a lot of cars, past vettes, viper, ferrari...etc. but it doesn't try to imitate just one car as some have said. That is a good thing. My only complaint is the grill. They could have done a better job without making it look plasticky.

Gm, Ford, Dodge and Chrysler for that matter have taken aim at the foreign market by directly building cars with better quality, performance and yes styling. The C6 needs to be seen in person before any solid judgments can be made, but as with all introductions of previous generations, some hated the new style while others love it.

hey you guys did a great job of shutting up mr.ford. oh and im sure we wont hear from him for a while. :r

I have a C5 and love it. I also love the C6 so much that I am considering getting one soon. The C5 is a great sports car, and the C6 should even be better because GM learned to make inprovements from the C5. My brother had a 1995 and 1998 Camaro Z28 and although I thought it was a great car there is no comparison to the Vette. By far the Vette is a better car and GM did it intentionally. I would by another Vette no questions asked. Once you have one, you want to keep it and even get another one if possible. I think the Vette is the ULTIMATE SPORTS CAR PERIOD.

I am excited about getting a look alike Ferrari Vette for half the price. Nothing bad about that!

I think the creator of this post had some valid points (and some BS). As far as worrying about GM losing the Corvette in the future. Could be, but that's not for us to worry about! There will be a lot of changes in the future but we have to live now. :D
