ok this is what i am thinking

the back of my intake is leaking, so instead of just doing the gasket only i was thinking of putting a different cam. has anyone upgraded the LT-1 factory cam?

if so which one should i go with? height, duration etc

thanks

exhaust and i have the high output ign system

different air claeaner system

thats about it

i dont want to go to crazy but a nice sound and performance

This is pretty much a personal choice as there are so many different ones available. A buddy of mine used the GM LT4 Hotcam (I've got one in the box.) Others will say the Lingenfelter LPE 219. Then there are a few that use the TPIS cams, ZZ-9, ZZ-409, ZZ-X. Maybe this will give you a starting point as to where to start looking.

:w

Zz409 :_rock

but that might be a bit much for your application. what is your goals? a good cam will make a world of difference but once you put it in most say they wish they always went bigger.

order of bigger cams from smallest to biggest.

LT4 Hotcam
LPE 219
ZZ9
ZZ409

i wouldn't go higher than the ZZ409 on a 350.

don't be a sissy though! get some long tube headers to compliment that cam and you'll be pushing 360+ to the wheels :cool

don't forget new springs and pushrods! this is the time to get your heads freshened up with new valve seals and retainers. a good porting job wouldn't hurt either :D

If you're going to do all that work, may as well spend an extra $200 for some 1.6 roller rockers. :D

Their lift numbers are with 1.5 stamped rockers. If you take the number, divide it by 1.5 and then multiply the result by 1.6, you'll get to the lift figure with 1.6 rockers. Factor in that they're roller rockers with less friction and that should give you a little more as well.

For example:

.510 intake
.510 exhaust

.510/1.5=.34

.34x1.6=.544

On that particular cam, you would get .034 more lift with the 1.6 ratio rockers.

LT4 Hotcam
LPE 219
ZZ9
ZZ409

Mic looking at the cam specs I think the order should be re-arranged. These are the numbers I came up with all adjusted for 1.6 rockers to keep everything the same.

TPIS ZZ-9 dur @ .050" I/212 E/226 lift I/.515" E/.555"
LPE 219 dur @ .050" I/219 E/219 lift I/.560" E/.560"
LT4 Hotcam dur @ .050" I/219 E/228 lift I/.525'' E/.525"
TPIS ZZ-409 dur @ .050" I/226 E/226 lift I/.555" E/.555"

Just wondering what you are calling bigger, the duration or the lift? I always thought it was pretty much the duration. Its hard to tell with the different ramp rates of each of the cams. If you look at the advertised duration then I agree with you ... although I can't find the adv. dur of the LPE cam.

Hotcam advertised duration 272/281
LPE advertised duration ???/???
ZZ-9 advertised duration 282/287
ZZ-409 advertised duration 287/287

going by duration @ .050 and experience from studying what each cam does on the dyno.

Can't beat dyno "Sperance"

You have me wanting to go put the Hotcam kit I've got for the build up on now. I'll get a ZZ-9X or maybe a ZZ-X for the build.:_rock Your "pecking order" of the cams helps confirm that Myron knows his stuff. :upthumbs

yes he does. But and this is a Big Butt!....lol the TPiS cam grinds are for TPI cars NOT mini ram cars. they will work in BOTH cars equally well but a built miniram/LT1 car and can spin to 7k they are not optimum. they are made to run in the 2500-5500 range. these are great low grunt cams. once you start getting into the 240+ @ .050 duration on a 110 lobe seperation with a lift of .560 or more then your talking high revving high HP cams. don't get me wrong you can do it on a 112 lsa and there have been great success with all the cams mentioned but these are cookie cutter cams and they are proven but once you build to rev 6-7k it's not an optimum cam choice.

Get a Hot Cam and some 1.6 roller rockers and some headers you will not be disapointed

i wouldn't go higher than the ZZ409 on a 350.

who makes this cam?
