l've read all the posts on paint chips and wondered, can a body shop fix the paint chips without painting entire panels. l seem to remember years ago l went to a body shop to fix a chip and they quoted me $350 to fix a chip in a door because they said they have to do the entire door.

Also what is the best carpet cleaner.
My carpet is beige.

Thanks

It kind of depends. How severe are the chips? you can go to www.AeroColours.com. I am becoming a fan of www.Langka.com for home touch up. It very much depends of the severity of the damage though.

Is it just general grime or is it specific stains?

Nothing like a Real Mint Vette!

Hi Detailling Dude

What l hate is an imperfect anything. My biggest problem is that if l bought a new vette l would have nothing to do but enjoy it!

Now that l bought a 96, Torch Red/ beige interior, there is allot to do. l will look into the Langka for the smaller stone chips, but underneath the vette doors it looks like the previous owner kept on driving over his kids toys in his one car garage. Fot this l might have to go to a body shop, plus on the drivers door, the extreme lower front there is a chip about 1 1/2 inch's by 1 1/2 inches where l thought was rubbing inside the door jam when the door would open but after inspecting it, l couldn't find any evidence of this.

When l first lifted the front hood, on both sides (not the hood) of the top of the fender where the hood rests when it close's, looks like the paint was chipped by the hood.
What l am going to do first is change all of the bumpers in the front and rear, because the present bumpers look like they are flatter then they should be.

lf at any time you think l'm over the top let me know!!

l also noticed that because the past owner was in construction and wore heavy boots he wore a hole in the carpeting by the right handside of the steering wheel, where the carpet turns to the front (side). l was going to order a whole front set of carpet because it bugsa me. Only l know it's there. This seem to be common.

Thanks again

The carpet is just dirty, really not bad.

Detailing Dude Where art thou??????????

Sorry to bug you but l still need your expert opinion.

Thanks

I can help you on the paint thing. As far as typical paint chips,it depends on how many you want fixed as to if they will have to paint the whole panel.A1 1/2 by1 1/2 inch chip isnt really a "chip"and the chip kits like lanka and thers wont do a very good job there.Just my opinion.:D

carptet cleaning

if the carpets are very dirty it might be worth it to bring it by a local carpet cleaner. I own my own carpet clng. bus. here in Ma. and the machines do an unbelivable job. I know if someone brings a car by my place i might charge them 20 or 30 bucks, it wont take long and the results are great.
Just a thought

The one thing you have to be incredibly careful with automotive carpets is that they have fire-retardant chemicals coating the fibers which some industrial cleaners can attack.

I prefer to attach stains with soil-specific soluitions.

Very true. This size of the chip is the determining factor of success with Langka. The one thing you have to do is make sure that you apply the touch up in very thin layers. I like to cut a cardboard match stick to just smaller than the size of the chip.

General Grime!

Detailing Dude

The beige carpet has only regular grime. l really do not need a strong cleaner, but one for genera grime.

Also, what about the fraying l mentioned earliar? Should l just change the front carpeting or is there a place where l can buy a specific piece?

Thanks

Alan

Well, I'd suggest giving it an intensive vacuuming first which I am sure you have done already. What you don't want to do is scrub the area as it can fray the fibers. Do you have a wetvac? HomeDepot has some non-flammable dry cleaning carpet cleaner.

I am not sure about that.... I'd first of all have to see the piece. Do you have a digital cam?

Digital Camera!!

My son took some pictures over the weekend and is going to forward them to me tonight. l will try to post them here or directly to your e-mail address.

When you see the pic's, remember the camera lies. lt really is in excellent shape for the normal driver, but l want more.

ln my opinion the vette is in good shape at this moment and when l'm through, l want something a little lower then show condition so that l can drive it and not feel guilty. l've been with a vette for too long.

l already started to order easy replacement parts for it through Mid-America and Corvette Central.

Tomorrow night l'm going to attend a local Corvette Club Called
"Corvette Express", they have their own site.

Thanks

Alan

Carpet fraying!

Hey Detailing Dude

My son has not sent the picks yet, but l notices in the classified section of the forum there is a 1995 Black Beauty that show the fraying condition on the edge where the carpet turns toward the front, to the left of the steering wheel.

The problem is that mine is a little larger and it's beige.

lt really is dumb for the carpet mfgrs not to offer this section by itself.

Thanks

Not if you're the MFR! :L

fraying carpet!

lt's in our classified section under 1984-1996

1995 Black Beauty

lf l was a mfgr l would make more money selling this section in sheer volume at a higher mark up, percentage wise.

lf l didn't think that the mfgrs would jump right in if l produced this carpet as a private label, l would pursue this venture.
