I've new to the forum and plan on purchasing a c4 over the summer( taking a step up from the camaro), so I have some questions on catback systems as I look into them.
I'm looking for a loud, big block, muscle car sound. I like the flowmaster 40's, but was wondering if there are any aftermarket tips that would fit well and still have the quad chrome look. I have halso heard that B&B is excellent, but have heard mixed reviews on the sound. Assuming it was a 2.5 inch system on an l98 vette, would that still have a good rumble? The other system I have research is power effects, again, I've heard mixed reviews about sound, some loud( what I like), others saying fairly quiet even fully open. I feel that B&B looks the best, then power effects, and the flowmaster tips just plain bad. Also, these systems would be assuming all cats are in place and stock exhaust manifolds for sound comparison purposes(and on an l98 while many reviews are generally for lt1 engines as far as I've seen). Anyone elso looking for a similar sound? Any tips would be appreciated.

I think Flowmaster can be loud, and B&B can really be loud.

I personally like PE the best though.

If you hear of any vette events in the area, you should try to check them out and hear for yourself, there are bound to be several with catbacks installed.

Is B&B as loud in the 2.5 inch setup?

vader is right about the Flowmaster, it is pretty loud and it really rumbles. If that's your mojo, go ahead and do it. That's my thing so I went ahead and went with Flowmaster.

My buddy always compliments me on the "rumble." He gets this big smile to his face whenever I rev it for him. :L

Flowmaster delivers, twice

I neither find the Flowmasters too loud nor get the resonance others speak of. My tip extend a bit beyond the rear fascia, which may help with that issue. I was pleasantly surprised to have a noticeable performance gain with small decibel increase.

This underscored the total lack of gain with huge noise increase with the pretty-boy, chrome tipped Monza system, that I gave away.

My 406 has the 3" system, which sounds like a performance system, but w/o raising the ire of the neighbors. When I really step on it, the system roars as it should.

I found my old, 2 1/2" system got a bit louder as it aged, but still had no resonance, even with the tips at the stock location.

Based upon these two systems, l am a Flowmaster fan. My only gripe is their flaky paint; a virtual non=issue in rust-free California.

I have a 96 LT-1 running a touch under 390hp. I use the MAD muffler eliminators. They caused system to resonate. I extended pipes 3" past rear bumper...Problem solved. Everyone who hears it says it sounds sweet throughout the RPM band. It howles like a b*tch at 120+ and I love it!!

Sounds like the 2.5 B&B wouldn't be loud enough for my taste. Thanks for the info, I'll take it into consideration. I currently have flowmasters on my Camaro, and from what I've heard they're also great on the vettes. Thanks
