Check engine, traction and low power

Hello! I have a 98 that will periodically give me the check engine light along with the check traction control light and I get the reduced engine power message (and boy is it ever reduced power). It seems to run great until the lights come on. The codes in the computer are 10PCM--P1125H, 10PCM--P1201H,
28TCS--C1278H, AO-LDCM--U1255H, AO-LDCM--U1064H, AO-LDCM--U1016H, AO-LDCM--U1096H, A1-RDCH--U1255H, A1-RDCH--
U1064H, A1-RDCH--U1016H, A1-RDCH--U1096H. After it sits for a few hours the lights go off and it runs fine. Does anyone have any ideas on the problem? Thanks!!

Tell the tech.......

Bill,
After assessing all your codes, I conclude you need a new Tac-Module.

Chick might be right. I'm sure someone like c4c5specialist will be here shortly to answer your question. Happy Holidays.:grinsanta

HI there,
I stand behind Chick, as she has more knowledge and experience, than myself.
From what you have shown, I would consider her advice, more than my own.

Chick, Happy Holidays. You know exactly what you are taking about. You are one of many people to get advise from. Happy Holidays.:grinsanta

I have a 1997 Coupe with the Z51 Performance Handling Package option. Currently it has 28k miles and we are experiencing the same problem noted above. Rebooting the car temporarily fixes the problem, but often the problem occurs multiple times in a single drive - other times it goes for weeks without an occurrence.

After much research, I found Service Bulleting 601125 that notes error codes and symptoms accurately. I changed the TAC model per the instructions, however the problem still remains. I've also changed the throttle actuator, as the dealer said I had faulty position sensor readings.

Neither the dealer nor I can identify the problem. My beautiful Corvette has become a garage car! HELP!

Hi there,
Guessing is NOT an option. Please post codes that were retrieved from the PCM, TCS, and the BCM to effectively diagnose and assist in the condition.
Also, depending on your codes, I would say to check you wiring, drivers side fuel rail, where it makes the turn around the bracket at the rear of the intake. I have seen many rub through at this point, causing many drivability codes, and blown TAC fuses.

It will take some doing to find it but you have more than likely a wiring problem at a connector involved or at a splice somewhere in the harness...The circuits that are actually causing the problem might have to have new wiring run from one end to the other to fix the problem.

The suspect wire has to be OHM'ed out carefully to locate the break or source of resistance. It will take many hours to complete. :hb

I am here vette boy and missing ya!!! You are the king of all master corvette techs. :crazy

How are you techs doin' today, i have a question about the 2002 C5, when i am at a full stop and punch the gas the car feels and sounds like it boggs down for a second, kind of like its hesitating in the beginnig but the power is intense when it kicks in after a couple of very important seconds, what can i do? i dont think there is anything wrong w/the car I just want a more explosive start when i hammer down the pedal...any suggestions?:confused

I don't know Chick, but I can tell you if she is as knowledgeable as C4C5 specialist, we are lucky to have both of them at CAC!!!

The ASR? Ifeel dumb, but is this the traction button? is it is then the traction is on, should I put it into Competitive Race mode? I didnt try that, but i cant see it making a difference

Push the button and shut it OFF.

When it's on it tries to maintain traction control.....

when it's OFF it NO HOLDS BARRED the engine will go right to full power...there will be no attempt made by on board computers to control engine power or ABS braking. Be careful though you can loose control of the car easily.

Comp. race mode is something different it is the SELECT RIDE which is controlling shock dampening and other variations LOOK AT YOUR OWNERS MANUAL. READ READ READ!!!!

Chick is THE Vette TECH.
I have learned many things from her.
Knowledge is second to none.
Thats why I call her GODDESS OF ALL CORVETTE.
Besttoall, and yes, on the ASR.
I remain, c4c5:hb

C4C5 specialist - Great to know about Chick. I would venture to say thay between the 2 of you, we can resolve all issues!! :upthumbs

Thanks c4c5specialist. I will attempt to locate the problem in the wiring. I will post anything I learn. Also, I purchased the AutoTap readout cable/software. What I am planning on doing is recording several sensors and hoping that I am able to record the right ones before the problem happens. I will pull the throttle position sensors. Any other suggestions on which sensors to read, I'll gladly take your advice. In the mean time, here are the DIC codes as requested:

P1125 Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) module
P1276 APP (Accel Pedal Position Sensor)
P1571 Electronic Trac Control Module (EBTCM)
C1278 Traction Control
U1064 Loss of Communication with DCM (L & R)

JUST REMEMBER, DRIVERS SIDE FUEL RAIL, AT THE REAR BRACKET, RETAINED BY THE 2 REAR MOST INTAKE MANIFOLD BOLTS.

Any other suggestions on which sensors to read, I'll gladly take your advice. In the mean time, here are the DIC codes as requested:

P1125 Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) module
THIS IS ACTUALLY A ACCELERATOR POSITION SYSTEM, not the TAC module.
P1276 APP (Accel Pedal Position Sensor)
THE 1125, ALONG WITH THE 1276 TELLS ME THAT YOUR ARE HAVING AN INTERMITTANT SHORT CIRCUIT WITHIN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SYSTEM.
P1571 Electronic Trac Control Module (EBTCM)
AS LONG AS YOU SEE "H" FOLLOWING THE CODE, THIS IS A NORMAL CONDITION IN ALL 97 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES, AND SHOULD BE IGNORED.
C1278 Traction Control
THIS 1278 CODE IS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE 1125, AND THE 1276. ONCE THESE CODES ARE REPAIRED, THIS WILL GO AWAY.
U1064 Loss of Communication with DCM (L & R)
THE U CODES, UNLESS FOLLOWED BY A "C" SHOULD BE DISREGARDED. Please reference this article that I have written on the subject, http://www.c5forum.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=001797
I feel, with the codes given, that if you replace the Accelerator position assembly, or in other words, the Gas pedal assembly, this will repair your reduced engine power concern.
Please keep us posted as to your concern, and the resolution to this.
