I suspect that when you put the clutch in, the sound decreases, but does not completely go away. the sound has to do with the design of the transmission, the way the gears are cut, the materials that the housing is made of, etc. the transmission is built to be strong, but it is at the expense of being quiet. There have been previous Corvette transmissions that have been even louder. The M22 "rock crusher" had a reputation for being noisy.
My 2 cents: It is noisy, but it is because the emphasis was on performance and durability. A Lexus would be more quiet, but then it would not be a Corvette, would it?![]()

The transmission is also at the rear of the car just in front of the rear axel gear housing

slong said:Upgrade to a stag III clutch. Problem solved. I know, just isn't right. GM should have handled something as simple as this. Let’s think, how long has this type setup been around? Things that make you go hmmm. If you do a little drag racing with your Z wait tell you get the dreaded clutch peddle stuck to the floor syndrome. No that one really will **** you off. It's killing me!!!
