Chevy announces Corvette Z06 0-60 mph time and base price

Guess what guys??? Today, I was sitting at a stop light and a new Z06 pulled up along side me and sat there until the light turned green...and when it turned...man did he fly!!!!!!! Does this sound impossible and you are saying that I am full of %#@&^?????

No, read my screen name and guess where I live!!!!!!!!

It's one of the BETTER perks of living in Bowling Green.

It was a deep red and it looked freakin' awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has a whole different character, from the low profile hood scoop to the awesome wheel well flares, (which were well filled with rubber, too)!!! The Z06 badge looks sweet on the fender, too!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW, I'M IN LOVE!!!!!!!!!

I share your frustration, Al. Unfortunately, the eyes of GM are upon us. It wouldn't be wise for us to post what we saw and experienced at Bowling Green for Cruisefest. Hopefully, that's not going to be true forever... stay tuned! ;)

Hi jd, Sorry to hear about the bad times. I hope your cancer is in full remission & may God bless you. Tom

P.S. Yea that is some machine!

I suspect that no one is being forced to buy the new Z06 and, if they don't like the packaging, price, color or believe a Mustang is a better buy then, I recommend you get whatever car suits you. Other cars like Ferrari, Porsche Turbo, BMW M6, Mustang (ugh!), Ford Gt might be what you're looking for, but standby to get your doors blown off by this low tech American car at 1/3rd the price, with a few exceptions. For years, we sat by and watched other cars pass the Corvette by in high tech engineering and the Corvette got beat by some of those named above, and now we get an American car that no one needs to be ashamed of or afraid to drive and we hear complaints. I will never be able to afford a Z06 but If I had the bucks and stayed where I am (Italy), I would have one, and trust me, I would have an absolute blast on the autostrada and the autobahn testing cars costing $150 to $200 thousand dollars. I already have plenty of that kind of fun with my C5 coupe and I have seen some Ferraris, Porches, Jaguars, BMWs and even an E55 AMG Mercedes who's drivers looked like they could have eaten the steering wheel when this lowly American waves bye bye! I'm proud to be and have always been a Chevrolet fan and the new Z06 makes me even more pleased with the Corvette!

Did anyone notice this line in the release:

Aluminum body structure with one-piece hydroformed perimeter rails frame and magnesium engine cradle

What is the "body structure"? Does that mean the 'chassis'?

The whole sentence seems to imply that it is talking about the chassis as it discusses the frame rails and the engine cradle. But, the phrase 'body structure' is new to me. Is this the latest in politically correct phrases for chassis?

What am I missing here?

They mean the structure that all the body panels bolt to. The skeleton of the car is aluminum.

It's still confusing even after hearing an explanation for this choice of words.

Skeleton = chassis = frame structure = super structure - but it just doesn't read right as 'body structure.'

In other places in GM press releases they used the phrase "frame structure" and "chassis" to indicate this concept. Then they choose "body structure" in the Z06 press release. Kind of like saying that my skeleton is my 'skin structure.' - it just ain't right.

Several of the first batch of cars if they weren't assigned crash duty were given to employees to shake down. There have been numerous pics of red, blue, black, and DSOM car(S) at "car" functions etc in the last month or so.

........and on that Viper price.......add 2k for GG Tax
