That's with the two options Dodge allows. Keep complaining, if you must.

C6 Z06 with no BS options costs 65800! Thats a hell of a deal for a premere sports car with performance rocking to the tune of 3.7 seconds to 60mph..

Probably a 200 mph top speed..

not to mention its handling and braking capabilities...or good looks...

Worlds best? I'd say so but its just an opinion...

have deposit down on one at MRSP - now, let's see when and if mine will be built!

My (2002) Z06 would be doing almost 9000 RPM to make it to 60 mph in first gear. It surprises me that they would make the gearing that much taller in the new Z06....

I went thru the production facility in Bowling Green, KY. May 25 with a buddy who took possession of his VR vert. We saw close to a half dozen Z06s being assembled. They may have been dealer ordered, but since that was 3 weeks ago, there should be some at dealers right now. I have only 2500 miles on my MY C6 Coupe. I wonder what I can get for it. To see a batch of those 427s ready for installation was awesome. :lou

I had to rub my eyes when I read this. Man...that is NOT a bad price. I felt sure that the price tag would have been well North of that! I think GM just made the Germans start shaking in their boots. I will have to have one. Of course I'll wait till the second model year to make sure there are no suprises. Also, it would be nice if they did offer the option of a supercharger. But why? With the current HP rating it will be difficult to find some place to open her up once in a while. Of course there is the drag strip. But I can see the many spankings come for the Porshes and Lambo drivers:L .

Hey, where did you put your deposit? My local Chevy dealer is not too swift--when I asked about the Z06 3 months ago, they said "Oh, yeah, we had one here, but it sold" (didn't even know the difference between a Z06 and standard C6).

BIG speeding tickets

I agree with that! I just got my ZR-1 and it is unbelievable that the car feels smoother the faster you go! I can't imagine what a ZO6 would feel like.

06 ZO6 owners will have a need for extreem self control or a good traffic lawyer.

1st Gear?

My Z06 would be almost to 9000 rpm if it hit 60 mph in 1st gear. It seems odd that Corvette would raise the gear ratios that much!!

RELEASE: 2005-06-13

Chevy announces Corvette Z06 0-60 mph time and base price

Corvette outperforms key competitive supercars at 1/3 the price

DETROIT – The ultimate Corvette—the 2006 Corvette Z06—is posting numbers at the track and on the window sticker that will get attention. Chevrolet has announced that the fastest Corvette ever—the 505-horsepower Corvette Z06—will achieve 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds while still in first gear, and pricing will start at $65,800, including destination and freight charges.

“Corvette is a global icon for world-class sports car performance at an incredible value, and offering the fastest production Corvette ever at this price is another testament to that reputation,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. “When you compare the Corvette Z06 performance stats to other supercars, you see numerous examples where you’re getting better performance with Corvette for one-third the sticker price of the competition.”

Developed alongside the Corvette C6.R race car, the Corvette Z06 uses advanced lightweight materials typically found only in the most exotic supercars. Use of weight-saving materials such as carbon fiber, aluminum, titanium and magnesium give the 3,132-pound car a highly competitive weight-to-power ratio of 6.2 pounds per horsepower.

“The new Corvette Z06 is the dividend from competing so successfully in endurance racing,” said Dave Hill, Corvette’s chief engineer. “It combines the strong attributes of the new, sixth-generation Corvette with the spirit, technology and know-how from the race program to form an American supercar with outstanding credentials.” The highly anticipated Corvette Z06, which will be available in the fourth quarter of 2005, completes the sixth-generation portfolio, which also includes the 400-hp Corvette coupe and convertible.

Previous Corvette Z06 models, from the original 1963 model to the 2001-04 editions, incorporated suspension and engine upgrades that complemented existing Corvette systems. The 2006 Corvette Z06 is more differentiated from the standard Corvette than any other Z06 in history with every design element serving a performance function.

Corvette Z06 features include:
  • LS7 7.0-liter/427-cubic-inch Gen IV V-8 engine with lightweight reciprocating components
  • 505 horsepower (373 kw) @ 6300 rpm
  • 470 lb.-ft. of torque (657 Nm) @ 4800 rpm
  • 6-speed manual transmission
  • 7000 rpm redline
  • Aluminum body structure with one-piece hydroformed perimeter rails frame and magnesium engine cradle
  • Carbon-fiber composite front fenders, front wheelhouses and floors
  • Dry-sump engine lubrication system
  • Hand-built engine at GM’s new Performance Build Center
  • Unique design styling that includes a larger grille, cold-air scoop and lower air splitter, wide-body front and rear fenders and a taller rear spoiler
  • Engine, transmission and differential oil coolers and steering cooler
For all its race-inspired functionality, the Corvette Z06 also is designed to be refined as a daily driver with a sophisticated and comfortable interior and generous cargo volume. The Z06 will be offered in Machine Silver Metallic, Victory Red, Daytona Sunset Orange, Le Mans Blue Metallic, Velocity Yellow Tintcoat and Black exterior colors.

Wow

All I can say is WOW!

Without going into great detail; I rode in one at Cruisefest on Saturday. Wow isn't a strong enough word to describe this car. It is a world class bargain at that price. As for loading it up with gee whiz junk, I rarely listen to a radio in a Corvette let alone carry a bunch of CDs and I can read a map.

Zora is smiling. No, he's grinning ear to ear!

My guess is that it's to lower the 0-60 time, which a lot of people look at.

Oddly enough, the Ford guy in my office complained that it was too expensive! I guess the GT40 is cheap and twice the price!

He is probably a Mustang guy... and compared to the Mustang GT it is more expensive. Even compared to the Shelby Mustang that is coming out if I remember correctly. Supposedly just under $40k.

Check here for some details

He just quivers when you ask him about the Shelby. He is a drag guy who has always race ponies. I do think the Mustang is a cool looking car. I feel sad for all the folks that bought the V6, but it is a free country...mostly. The Mustang was never in the same class when Ford put the back seat in. There really is know comparison. The GT40 is the only car in the Ford inventory to compare the vette with and there is now more than parity if one considers sticker vs performance. I look forward to the head to head of the ZO6 and the GT40 (or whatever it's badge is).

The last time I sent you my information and details, I never got the car!:L

G'day,
Any news on a right hand drive version? In Australia, you cannot register a left hand drive passenger vehicle unless it's 30 or more years old. I just can't wait that long.

Regards from Down Under.
