Check the U-Joint all 6 of them, if nothing found check the C beam bolts

U-joint or C beam.

A silly question may be here in this forum, but Where is the C-beam???

Clicks in the rear part

Hi.

I have an 85 and there are some clicks when starting slow or hard. The clicks comes also when I slightly decrease the speed and accelertes slowly. It does not occur every time and it does not sound as a clunk as with halfshaft u-joint.
The propeller shaft has new u-joints
Could this clicks also be the C beam whatever that is.
Could this be worn bushings. I have the original bushings and the car has 68 000 on the odometer.

I would very much appreciate some answers/comments.
I live in Norway far from Corvette country.

a clunk sounds like a bad U-joint in the drive saft and possably in one of the half safts. check them out. i kind of have the same thing, but mine is kind of slamming into gear from park to drive, but i am not sure if its just when i am doing it when my idle is a little to high. i have a little play in my front drive saft U-joint but i am not getting a clunk yet?

I have had a clunk, bang, or whatever you want to call it in my car for about two years. Thought it was U-joints, replaced all six of them twice. Still no cure. I had the car up on jackstands with a stethoscope, and put the car in drive and what not, and couldn't find it. I finally broke down and took it to the corvette shop here locally, which for the most part does good work. After two days of inspection, he said he couldn't find anything, and said that if it hans't broke yet, dont feel bad about driving it because everything looks good. Well so far so good. I do think however that the new mods to the engine might do it in.

Not a silly question...

The C beam is the brace or support that connects the rear of the trans to the diff, runs the length of the drive shaft.

I've had 3 C4's 86, 87, and 95. All of them have made some noise when going from park to drive or reverse to drive. If you don't feel any vibration you are probably ok. By the way, the aluminum drive shaft and half shafts ring like a church bell anyway (tap on one with a wrench), so any noise will be amplified by them.

Good Luck,
Brett
