The Registry received an email from a New Member concerning readouts on his OTC 2000 Scanner. I've stated before my forte is NOT engines or engine related items, Sooo here is the Email as received. I'll try to get this newest Registry Member here to add comments, or I will make sure he receives any response's ;)

I am using a otc 2000 scanner to go through information. i am not flagging any codes. I wanted to know if you have the ranges for the following:

coolant temperture?

o2 volts?

02 cross counts?

mixture control dwell?

throttle position sensor volts?

vechicle speed - if i am doing 25 the otc scanner is reading 35 ???

map volts?

these are the basics i can test for.

here is my problem when i am driving the car over time and the tcc kicks in the car tends to bog down ( may be wrong termology) trying to find out what is causing this problem??

TIA

Just at a glance, if your computer thinks you are going 35 when you are going 25, it may be shifting/ locking up early causing the bog. It's not something I look at regularly, but I'm pretty sure my speedo and computer readout match. What modifications to the drive train might you have? God bless, Sensei

First, I'm pretty sure the MY81 system does transmit TCC status over the serial data line. That you're not seeing that with the OTC tester seems to confirm that.

Secondaly, Sensei's comment about the tester reading 35 when the car is going 25 is a good place to start trouble shooting. If the signal getting to the device that enables the TCC is coming at too slow a vehicle speed, the feeling might be as if the car was bogging.

That said, I'm going to guess that the speeds at which TCC enables are pretty low at part throttle to get fuel economy.

Thanks Cris, Hib
and
b2b I have 4 Shop Manuals ;) THANKS for the reference :eyerole

Very well then. I would check calibration first. The speedo drive gears should match the odometer. The speedo head is then calibrated to match the odometer.
The VSS inside the head should then match the actual reading. The L/U is regulated by the VSS, and enabled by the high speed switch in the tranny. :D

Bud,

That bog-down description sounds pretty close to the problem my tranny had a long time ago. The bog-down is almost as if when you change your manual tranny from 2nd to 3rd, but the car is not really going fast enough to make use of the third gear, so you get that "bog-down".

I solved that problem by replacing the TCC lock-up solenoid. It is hard to describe, but either the solenoid weakens and allows the lock-up hydraulic signal to leak internally, or the pressure build-up on the hydraulic signal hole covered by the solenoid on the valve body) overcomes the solenoid.

By the way, what does TIA means?

Bud,
..... . . . ... By the way, what does TIA means?

TIA = Thanks In Advance ;)

I'll email our new member with this information and provide him a Link to this thread :upthumbs

Simple test. Unplug the 4 pin harness going to the tranny. Go for a drive. See if it improves/symptoms go away. It will not hurt a thing. It WILL set a code. Ignore it.;)
