Console Make-over

Sunday, I had my console apart to clean the contacts on the electronic climate control. (Working great now, by the way). I noticed how bad the console was while it was apart. Rubber coating worn off and filthy. :puke Time to get creative... Let me know what you think. (I can take it.) :D

did you use a laminate or is it paint? I used a laminate on my 76 it started to peel after 3 years on the gage console, but still holding up on the shifter.
 
Red paint base coat, black top coat, then wrapped it in foil and removed it while still wet.
 
Looks good. The only thing I don't like about painting the consoles on these cars is the cutout area at the top where the buttons are for the trip/gauges/etc. It makes things look a bit off since they are black, but you can't do anything to fix that.
 
I think it looks OK. I know what you mean about the rubberized coating, I wish it didn't wear so easily.
