Has anybody had any experience with the rear wind deflectors available for C5 convertibles. Do they work? How much? Where? Are the worth the cost?

Thanks in advance

I don't have one yet but I have asked the same questions. The one I hear about the most is the 'Vette Net'. All responders say it really reduces the wind and wind noise. If you search for Vette Net I think you will find several vendors with it. One recently posted a special price of $249 (or something close) and they are regularly $349 I believe.:w

Be a Man - Go Topless

Bob,

I noticed that you own a 1975 convertible and you've posted on the C5 forum. Is your question about your 75 or do you also own a C5? As far as C5 convertibles go I've found that, compared to other convertibles, there is very little wind from behind. Besides nothing looks more rediculous than people riding around with the top down, a wind screen and especially with the windows up.

I say, don't be a sissy, put the top down and go for it.

I say you are very wrong! I have a vert and the newer model wind screen AND have ridden with the windows up and the heat on when cruising on a clear sunny cold fall day. Trust me....I am far from a sissy!

Cruser99 has 1 and Loves it!! :upthumbs

Honestly in my opinion those wind deflectors look like crap. I have driven a vert and a coupe. There is much more air turbulence in a coupe than a vert. I really didn't think the vert was bad at all for wind turbulence.

Stupid me - I should have mentioned the"heater on" thing as well.:L

Sure, it takes a REAL Man to drive with the top down and no screen.:bash I like the idea of a screen (if it works) so that my wife could ride with me and we could carry on a conversation.

As far as the real man thing...well, I teach martial arts. I fight three times per week so when I want to be a "Real Man" I put on the gloves and do it that way. :D

Fighting to restrain all comments about driving a vert with the top down and the windows up. ;squint:

Well, excellent point about the "sissy". But its not for me, its for the other half :) Yea, I own the 75, but trying to sell it so I can buy a C5.

I have had 1975 and 1990 convertibles and now have a 2000. I would get your C5 before deciding. The difference in wind noise and turbulence between the C3, C4 and C5 is night and day. I drive convertibles to feel the wind in my hair (or whats left of it), and enjoy the great view. Sometimes I crank up the tunes. My wife & I can have a conversation on the interstate so I'm thinking about getting a louder exhaust! (hope she doesn't read this).

To me personally, I have never felt the need for a wind screen. Good luck.

Good luck with your deal. My first vette was a 1973 coupe, my second was a 1988 coupe and my current is a 2002 convertible. The C5 is not as raw as the C4 to me but it is comfortable, fast and I like it with the top down (and yes I roll the windows down except if I am drving at lunch in which case I leave the passenger window up. I do have hair and I look like Don King sometimes after driving with the top down).

I have considered a net so that my wife enjoys the ride. She does not like the wind through her hair. I don't like the look of the net so I have not bought one. If my wife rode with me more I would buy one.

Good luck.:w

The Hair Deal

Hey gang,

I know some of your wives don't like to get wind through their hair,
so here's an alternative. My wife puts on a Corvette logo baseball
cap and pulls her hair through the back into a pony tail. She looks
great and we avoid the wind screen.

With all due respect Remo, there are things that some people like and just because someone else might not care for those things dosen't make them wrong or make anyone less of a man or woman. Enough said now before this turns into something it shouldn't have already.:pat

I'm with you there. My wife wears my USMC hat.

John - these comments are pure "tongue and cheek" - don't take them seriously or personally. In the future I'll use more of the smiley faces to express the intent.:)

Sorry to upset you:w

My wife keeps a big hair clip in the Vette and if the top is down she just wraps her hair up and puts the clip on. I also keep a couple of hats in the trunk just in case. The only time my wife doesn't like the top down is when we hit the freeway with speeds at 75, a screen might be nice for times like that.

I've got one, the newest clear acrylic NetVette. It seems to work ... somewhat. I'm tall and it does limit the seat tilt somewhat. I've used it twice; probably wouldn't buy it now mainly because of the seat interference, but this is only a factor for the tall folks.
