03 Z51 MY Vert
Based on the yellow vs. silver thread we have all enjoyed I thought we could do a similar thread on Verts, Targas, and performance package. Tell us what style you have and if it has a performance package. If you could have any package which would you choose and why?

1. Convertible

2. Targa

3. Z06

4. Vert Z51

5. Targa Z51

Edited for response to voting pole and Z package, thanks guys

Now you have a poll :D

Tammy

I voted Z06. If I could have any style at all.... it would be a Z06 with a removable hard top and limited glass in the back. I was just discussing this with Coolhandluke.

Z56?

What is the Z56 option code? I know Z51 is the Performance Handling Package, but I'm not familiar with Z56. Didn't want to vote until I understood the code.

I voted the same Zo6 all the way. I wish they would have a removable hardtop as well, that would be sweet!:upthumbs

I think the Z56 is typo and should be Z51.

I wondered what a Z56 was too. Fixed the poll :D

Thanks Tammy. I was confused... :confused luckily it's territory I'm familiar with. :L

I voted Convertible - love those verts all the way. I don't have the Z51 option, and I can't say if I would want it or not because I love the ride in my '98 as it is. I previously had a C4 and although I LOVED it, I could tell a major difference in the "seat of the pants" experience the first time I drove my C5.

I don't know enough about the mechanical aspects to know if Z51 option would make the ride more like my old C4 or if it would not make much difference.

;shrug

Yep. Z-06 for me too. I too wish it had a removable top like my '86. That was the only feature that kept me from buying a Z much earlier. My trip to Carlisle last year and watching a Z-06 on the dyno is where I decided that the removable top was a moot point. After departing Carlisle, the need for speed was high and the search was on to obtain my Z:_rock .

Did I say that I love the proformance of this car:D ?

Everytime I drive the Z it is so cool:cool . It is like going to the amusment park to ride the latest thrill ride:upthumbs

I still love my C4 too. Great car and it too is a blast to drive.

I think that each style has it's +s and -s. But they are all great cars:v .

Targa

I bought a 2004 targa with the F55 option. I love the option of having a solid roof over my head or no roof over my head. Even better is that when the top on it is all clear. I can't drive a car without some kind of sunroof without feeling claustrophobic (sp?). The F55 is pretty cool. I haven't driven a Z51, so I really can't compare them, but I enjoy the ability to go between a hard ride and a not so hard ride. They make a huge difference between highways and backroads (soft vs. hard).

When we can afford it, my wife wants a vert. I think at that point a Z06 would certainly be my preference :_rock .

The great thing is that everybody has different tastes. I can't imagine 'vettes would be terribly exciting if they were all red coupes.

I love my targa because it is a coupe, a coupe with a glass top or a convertible at my choice and mood. I also went the targa to satisfy my wife's desire for significant luggage space. I wanted the 6 speed for the Corvette grin. It meets all our needs.

What I would like to know is what the Z51 option is - Is it the LS6 engine or suspension or what??

My C5 is a Targa w/ Z51 (6 speed). Next one will be a Convertible with a power top and the F55 Magnetic Selective Ride Control suspension. My A$$ getting too old for the harsh ride and my back is too worn out to muscle the roof panel around. I hate to admit it but I also hope the new auto trans is a 5 or 6 speed auto-stick deal. Not having to shift gears all the time would be a nice change too.

Z51 on a C5 is handling package. It has stiffer springs and shocks, thicker sway bars and a power steering cooler.

Love them all!

I have had targas and verts but never with the Z51 package. I am in the process of looking for a C6 Targa with the Z51 option. I think for me, any time I can get in the vette (any vette) and drive is best of all. They're all fun to drive.

I voted targa Z51 which is what I have in my 97 and what I will buy when it is time for a C6 Although I love the new Z06 I don't need the added performance (or cost) since I am an old fart. The base coupe with Z51 is good enough for me. I was back east over Christmas and the roads really sucked If I had to live there again I would want the soft suspension and the automatic.
I plan on taking many trips with my C5 the Coupe has plenty of room for that. BTW I have put 10,000 miles on it since August 4 and I live in the snowbelt; do you think I can wear it out? ;LOL

A convertible with a lift off fiberglass roof was my no. 1 choice, but there is too great a loss of luggage space. That is going to be more and more important as our trips will, hopefully, get longer. The coupe has a ton of room!

After the rough riding C4 I wanted the soft ride suspension and didn't care about the adjustable suspension---and now I'm ordering Z06 sway bars and may change the springs/shocks!!!

For me Corvette means top down driving, so there is really only one choice convertible
