RISING SUN, Md. (WJZ) ― You've probably dreamed of owning a Corvette. Dozens of Corvette owners will be heading to Cecil County Saturday.
Ron Matz has more on the romance of hitting the road in an American icon.
On television, it was the car of our dreams, traveling Route 66.
Corvette owners love to talk about their passion.
"It's an icon. It's an American dream to own the Corvette," said Corvette owner Steve Lesser. "It's Americana at its best."
More than 100 Corvettes will be racing at the Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun. They call it Vintage Thunder.
Members of the National Corvette Restorers Society are dedicated to restoring the beautiful cars to their original form.
"We go to the track once or twice a year to have fun. We're not professional racers. We just go to see how our cars do," said Chuck Gongloff, president of the Mason-Dixon chapter of NCRS.
More than 50 years after its birth, the Corvette is still king of the road.
Proceeds from Saturday's races will be donated to the Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital and the Baltimore County Humane Society.
