I share this information only to amuse my fellow forum members with my current project. I have been a long time owner and racer of Buicks and my last car unfortunately meet its doom on the race track. Anyways, I have since them been wondering what to do with my 550 HP Buick 455 in the garage. Well yesterday, I went and picked up another frame for my 79 and started the process of modifying it to mount the beast. I know this will dishearten a few but I want a machine that is different and not run of the mill. Some may ask why the Buick? The reason is simple. I have it and it weighs only 20 pounds more than a Chevy small block. Thus keeping the weigh down and creating a power house. Please don't banish me.

I'm sure it will be one of a kind!
But isn't that what hot rodding is all about?

Norm.

Hey, I like that idea...and I'm a relative purist. But when it comes right down to it, hotrodding is all about the show AND the go. Custom mods galore! Bring it on! No one complains when they put GM engines in Fords...so you should be able to drop the 455 in your vette. I saw an old Nissan Z with an LT1 in it. That was cool...

it will have your identity

79Blueshark,

A corvette with a Buick big block engine would be unique and interesting. For some of us, is easier to maintain a 1966 Vette or a 1971 LT-1 original, for they came from the factory with a lot of fun and satifying equipment, but if one happens to have a vette that did not come from the factory set up to roll over Mustangs, Z-28's, or the like, then one has to equalize the situation. Right? :eyerole

I have known Corvette purists that have sold their pride and joy (and not necessarily to avert an urgent medical operation or pay for the kids college tuition), so go for it, and keep us informed of your progress. We'll cheer you on. :s

Do what you want to yours i do believe it is yours just keep us updated

DO IT!

I have a question: where do you find a published weight of Buick 455 & sbc. I'd also heard how light B 455 is ... I heard it was lighter than sbc. I've been considering a B 455 project too ... but want to confirm weight first. Do ya know where those weights are published?

I think you'll find that most people around here aren't as stiff as you might think about keeping everything original.... either that or the ones that are, are just too nice to say anything to us modders. I wanna see pics when you're done.
