I know we cannot all drive our Callaway Corvettes every day so I mention this as a practical alternative... It is avail as a 2003 or a 2003.5 model as the "newest" version (that is not the same car anymore) is called the Mazda3.
I am still toying with the idea of buying one for my commute as in addition to the rebate, I would be entitled to a Ford plan discound which would bring the car down to a few bills over $16k and for me, you cannot buy a better car for the money
