I know it can be hard, with the raked windshield's reflections, divided roads and the thousands of cars (here) to see every wave, but I try. I usually wave with all of my fingers and those few jerks make me glad I am having a better day than they are.

The blonde was probably a true B****, given who she was with. They deserve each other.

I think the statement they deserve each other says it all. I know neither of them measure up to my standards. Pretty is nice to look at (cars or people), but if it only goes skin deep (cars or people) it's a sham and not worth my time.

I just keep waving. I waved when I owned my 61, 65, 73, 76, 79, 85 and now I wave in my 02. I have even forgot myself and waved at other Vettes when I'm in the Honda Odyssey.... Now that gets some unusual looks!

Nice thread - good stories. But in all of this, the one my thoughts turn to is your little girl. You assure her that even though the world is full of some mean spirited and nasty people, most Corvette owners are proud of their cars and their comrades, and only too happy to wave a hello anytime.

I congratulate C6 owners on their purchase of THEIR dream car because I can empathize with someone wanting to fulfill a Corvette dream. But I don't envy them, because my C5 is my dream.

As far as my daughter is concerned, she understands. She especially likes to ride with me and is always on the lookout for other Corvettes. She gets a big kick out of having a chance to enthusiasically wave herself. I just felt bad for her since it was Christmas and she was waving at this guy and received no wave in return just a scowl and some exhaust. If a smiling thirteen-year-old girl waving pi$$es him off, that's his problem and his loss. We have fun anyway.

And like yourself, the C5 is my dream Vette.

I will defend some of the new Corvette owners. I had never heard of that tradition when I bought my first Corvette (a C5). Somebody had to teach me about it. Fortunately, it was the dealer who sold me the Vette. Others may not learn for a long time, or maybe nobody will ever explain it. Of course, there are some who will not participate.

I completely agree with you and defense isn't necessary. Some people just don't know about the traditional "wave." Corvette enthusiasts like yourself and other peple who belong to this forum may have a deeper love for this fine automobile. I personally spent a lot of time exploring the Corvette websites and forums long before my purchase.

My dealer didn't explain the wave either. I learned about it from visiting CAC. But I tell you what, it took only one or two passing Corvettes to figure it out. a no-brainer in my opinion. Although it sounds hard to believe that this guy who is probably living in the NYC area hasn't passed many Corvettes.

Like I said before, it's his loss. I hope he figures it out and joins this proud family.

I was waving at Corvettes before I read about the tradition because I noticed the drivers were waving at me. I returned said wave, and began waving first when I would spot another. I was really glad I had when I read about the tradition on the internet.

I can't help it, rude people annoy me - and when that rude behavior is directed at a child - I'm apt to pull a Julia Sugarbaker on 'em in a heartbeat.

Tell that young lady to keep waving and have fun.

I was trying to scan all the reply's and see if anyone said anything about this..didn't see anything so I will mention it. Read in your post that you waved and then tooted your horn at him. In case you didn't know or have not seen other street racing video's, a quick toot on the horn while you are rolling is singnaling as if a count 1..2.. 3. Not sure, but with the exception of the wave..which is usually only done, he may have thought you wanted to "test him". I know when I am in the vette and come across another vette, I will wave. There are several different types of waves. They cross the whole spectrum...from the 2 fingers off the wheel wave..to the almost falling out of the car wave. Hopefully, he will get the jest of the jesture..no pun intended..and will start waving instead of jumping on the go fast pedal. Have fun and keep waving..!! Joe..peace <*))))><

That was me. When I got my C6, it dawned on me that material wealth IS THE KEY to happiness.



Just kidding. I hate it when that happens. Some new owners forget to wave because they aren't used to doing it. If you aren't a career Vette guy, well... it means NOTHING at first.

I have the same problem when I am tooling around in the T&C... forget that I am in the grocery getter and wave anyway... I actually get waves back occasionally, but most of the time it is just a weird look....

Photovette: I really laughed out loud when I read your post about vette owners riding around with their window open and their arm outside, even in the cold. I do that all the time.
As far as the C6 owner. Who knows what was in his mind? Maybe we will just have to teach him how to be a fun vette owner. I wave to everybody. And when I am in one of my other cars and I see a vette, I get ticked off at myself for not being in my vette right then.
I think we all need to wave more, and really show people in the metal cars how much fun we are having!

The first Corvette I owned was a 1968 427 (390hp), T-Top, 4 speed in 1968. I distinctly remember the "Wave & Smile" was common then to other Corvette owners, while we were trying outrace each other (Kids)!

This C-4 is the second one I have owned and nowdays the "Wave & Smile" is out of respect for the other Vette driver for their wisdom in buying it in the first place and their determination to keep it on the road!

hey mick s3, I always give vette drivers a thumbs up and a smile when cruising in either my Explorer ( yes a ford ) or Subaru. Talk about grocery getters! Mostly they seem to enjoy the recognition. One of these days I'll have a C6 and I plan to be friendly to every vette I meet. I hope the C6 Z06's will wave back. Meanwhile ( and something one forum member has ridiculed me for ) I enjoy my Mattel 1:18 Z51. Someday it will be a 1:1.

I have a 1:1 scale convertible outside, and inside I have more than 80 1:18 scale models of "...that classic chunk of American muscle, the Chevrolet Corvette" (according to MNBC). I love everything Corvette.

You just celebrate your passion as you can and have fun!
