Hello all,

My key fob is not functioning at all. I replaced the battery and tried to retrain it but it wouldn't retrain. I checked the codes and found this one.
B0-RFA C2120-C. TPM System Malfunction (No Sensors Received)
Should I just order a new key fob or is this a vehicle problem?

Thanks in advance for the info.

HI there,
First, your code is for the tire pressure monitoring system.
It is not seeing any sensors programmed to the vehicle.
This would be your first step, to program your sensors.
Then, if they can be programmed, testing your key fob would be the next course of action.

Good morning Specialist!

It makes plenty of sense that its the tire monitoring system because recently I swapped out my wheels and tires for a Z06 set and haven't ordered the sensors yet.
So what do you recommend? Any specific key fob testing?

HI there,
You can have the vehicles key fobs tested at any GM dealership, as they will have a fob tester that can determine if the fob is bad or not.
It will take a minute to do, but it is very effective.

I didn't know that. Thank you very much.

If you have to ask... you really might need to replace it!

It's either the fob or the onboard receiver/transmitter. I think it's called the Body Control Module (BCM). I had one go bad on my '99 at 63k miles - a $350 dealer repair!

You may be right...I may be crazy...but it just may be a lunatic....
Either way, if I don't have to waste money, I choose not to.
Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I plan to get this thing to dealership today or at the lastest, friday.
I see your in Columbia. Are you one of those filthy rich guys out there?
If so, I'm jealous as hell. There's some very nice homes out there.

Heck, you don't have to be rich to live in Columbia, just ask all the Section 8 residents we inherited from Baltimore City!!!

You may just need to resync the fob. This is required every time you change the battery. Just stand by the car and hold down the lock and unlock buttons together for about 8 to 10 seconds and if successful, the horn will beep. After that, you fob will work normal.

If you are going to synch your fob (or a new fob) you need to be in the "fob learn" mode on the DIC. Needless to say you need the ignition on with engine not running. Check your owner's manual. It will give you the rundown. It may just turn out to be a bad fob and time for a new one.

Mine has not worked for about a year. I get along fine.

Key in door:
one turn left = unlock driver
two turns left = unlocks driver and passenger door
three turns left = pops the rear hatch (on my coupe anyway)

Re-syncing a fob and learning mode are two different things. The learning mode identifies a particular fob as one, two or three and then can match saved settings to that fob. A resync (after changing a battery) only requires holding down the open and lock keys simultaneously for about 10 seconds until the horn beeps.

But you still have to have the key in the ignition and turned to the "on" position (engine off), correct? :)

No. Not doing a re-synch.

So if I wanted to synch my fob with your vehicle, all I have to do is stand next to your vehicle and press both of the keys on my fob? I must be missing something here or does some of this have something to do with the memory settings? Not all C5's have the memory feature for different driver's, certainly not the FRC's. :)

To re-synch my fob after replacing a battery, I do it with the key off and push lock and unlock at the same time for 7-10 seconda until the horn beeps. When I got a new fob, I had to have the dealer program the new (different) fob.

Hi LLC5 -

You might want to check this page:

http://www.iammoon.com/c5tech/fobs/

Also, there is a procedure you must go through in the DIC to get it to recognize the fob in the first place, if I remember correctly. This is called FOB TRAINING on the DIC Options panel.

This is why you cannot just walk up to a car and have any fob marry to any car...

I had to do this when I bought a new fob for my 2002.

best regards -
