I have an 03 Anniv Convertible that I bought last June 03 and have since added chrome to the tailights and brakelight. Now I've ordered the SS Corvette letters and the 50th anniv chrome exhaust plate. Do ya think I may be overdoing it a bit? I don't want to ruin the look of the car, just make it look a little nicer. I do like chrome! I am doing some internal mods, but nothing major. I'm no mechanic so it's only easy engine mods that I can do myself.

I just don't want ot overdo it. Any thoughts/opinions?

Vic

I think it will look sharp!
The chrome touches you mentioned seem to me like they would enhance the rear view of your vette. Lets face it, the C5 has a lot of booty, and I think the chrome pieces will give you areas to focus on instead of just viewing the rear end as a one-color mass.
I also think the chrome will stand out and make more of a statement on a dark vette, whereas the chrome might get 'lost' on a light colored vette.

Can we see some pictures when everything is installed?
Heidi

I agree!

Thanks Heidi,

I agree. Since this is the first and only Vette I've owned, I wanted some level of assurnace that this is a good thing to do and not one that is overdone.

When I get it done, I'll put up a picture.

Hey FirstVette, have you joined the 50th Registry yet? If not, check them out at:

Vic,

It's kind of a loaded question so I'll do this as delicately as possible. I like chrome as much as the next guy but I've always leaned towards a low profile approach to cars. Under the hood is a nice place to accent the engine compartment with some chrome. As far as the exterior I like things to be understated. Let the natual lines of the car speak for themselves. In other words the only time I like to draw attention to the car is when it blows the doors off another vehicle. It's just my preference - on the other hand a little chrome accent never hurt.

Conservative old dog,

Remo,

Yeah I know what you mean. I tend to like the chrome to dress it up, but I do worry about it being too much. Of course, I already bought the stuff. So.....I guess I'll put it on anyway. Since you live in the area I do, look for a 03 anniv conv with a lot of chrome on the back end. That'll be me!!!

Just remember-

Friends don't let friends install neon.

Sorry- I just posted something about neon and I was thinking about tasteless stuff and that came to mind.

Well, to each their own about neon.... but the chrome will be okay as long as you don't add a bra, dust shields for the wheels, mirror masks, teddy bear rims from RONAL, mud flaps with women's outlines... well....you get the point!

I've been modding cars for a while now and people tell me I have a really good eye. You take a stock Corvette, lower it, pipe it, custom stereo, remove Body moldings and emblems, now that is a slippery, cool ride. Shows off the beautiful Vette lines. Why stick more things on the car? It's a Vette, the Vette lights are a trademark, the louvred chrome just takes away, looks like your trying too hard. If someone screwed on all that chrome on any other make or model of vehicle you would laugh. Being a Vette you get saved a little but it's still a micron away from tacky. When I see a Vette with the chrome light pieces, etc., that everyone ordered from the same catalog by the way, the first thing I think is "look, he screwed those stupid chrome things on the lights" Whoever invented those must be rich by now. No offense, just straight shootin' I'll post some pics of my triple black vert and you tell me if I should chrome it out? I would'nt dare anyway.

Pac-man,

I know, but I do like a little chrome. Granted it can be overdone and I hope this won't look like that.

I tossed around the fact that the tail lights are a vette trademark and it did concern me that I may be "vilolating" the vette, but I like the way it looks. What can I say.

Neon!! No way would I ever do that. Actually I wouldn't install a bra or any of the other items either. Yes I do get the point. In fact I don't understand why anyone would bother with mirror masks and that sort of thing. That stuff just hides the vette. I suppose one could argue that chrome does too, but I don't think so.

Vic

It is interesting how differently people see this stuff. I use a bra on road trips only, and I like it. My last 'Vette sustained quite a bit of sand/rock damage on the front, and my current one has not. On the other hand, I would NEVER put those chrome inserts in my tail lights. Might as well get one of those wings and a coffee can exhaust tip. (Just my opinion- no better than anybody else's opinion.) There is a guy in my local Corvette club with a '97 that has a severe case of aftermarket disease. Just about every dress-up goodie in the Mid America catalogue is on that car. Some people seem to like it, for me...:puke

I think that the chrome looks tacky on any other color than black. I myself have the millenium yellow and may put the "brakelight red" insets into the C O R V E T T E letter on the rear bumper. Sort of matches the tailights

Its YOUR CAR do what you want to make it look nice. I personally like the chrome script, louvers, and the plate. I have the script and the plate with tips and i really like the look. I also added the Z06 screens up front where my fog lights are. I think it looks pretty sharp. The Bra however is a bad thing it can cause problems with your paint if you leave it on and it just looks awful. I would stay away from some chrome though. The "LS1 Powered" Sticker i think is a little overkill. Its a C5 vette its obviously going to at least have the LS1. Just my opinion but your vette sounds real sharp. Ill probably see it at a car show someday as i live not too far away from you.

You did ask, so, personally, I don't like the crome strips that go over the tail lights.

I do like chrome, rims, exhaust tips, chrome bumpers on those year Vettes. Mirrors for those year Vettes. Grill? on the first ones?

When I say I wouldn't put a bra on it, I mean only that I am concerned about the paint being different that what is under the bra after a period of time. Using it when on a roadtrip on the the highway, etc makes sense to protect it from being chipped. Actually it's really not a bad idea. I constantly make sure I drive well behind others on the highway to avoid getting chips if I can.

Interesting how many different opinions there are on this topic.

That is pretty cold. being a HUGE neon fan, I can tell you that any car looks good with it IF it is done tastefully. My friends uncle has a rad vette and it has a red UB (underbody) kit on it and it looks VERY sharp while rolling down the street.

FirstVette: As long as you don't make it look like this:

you will be fine.

Now this is just what you want to see. A guy in his mid 30's driving a Vette with an underbody neon kit.

Remo:cool

I agree. Remo, your vette is a shing example of a classy, slippery Vette, well done. Now lower it a bit, take the Corvette emblems off the deck and nose and its perfect. Less is always more when you dealing with a legend. I highly doubt that after years and millions in research and development that $100 worth of chrome or neon is going to improve on the design.
