I know on the C4 Callaways they had the 5 spoke Dymag that accepted the 89 Center cap..

I also knwo that there were the SAME style wheel that was the Corvette Challenge Wheel.

My Question is if any other company made 'Knock offs' of these?

I found a set which I think are the Challenge wheels. if so I am gogin to buy them but I wanted to be sure there were no possible off brands that are the same..

As far as I know, nobody has ever made knock-offs or replicas of the 5-spoke Dymag wheels used on Callaways and Callenge cars. If anyone did, they would probably sell like CRAZY! They were hands down the nicest looking wheels ever fitted to the C4.

If you've found a set for sale buy them!!! I'm sure I don't have to tell you they're incredibly rare!

Nope not Dymags.. they are the American Racing wheels

The Corvette Challenge wheels were made by Dymag. :beer

yep, I wish they were the dymags it would have been a killer deal.. but they were these, the ARE's that are at the bottom of the picture:

in the picture in the ad I saw they had no centercaps and my first thought was Dymag. but after talking with the seller ont he phone he told me they were American Racing

:(

Just FYI, but I believe you can tell Challenge wheels from B2K wheels by the word "Corvette" vs "Callaway" on the spokes. From what I understand, some Challenge wheels had a threaded area to accept the '88-89 wheel cover, and some did not. So watch out for that if you have a preference.

I believe they all have the word "Dymag" on a spoke. I've never seen any actual attempt at a knockoff (though I'm also not the Dymag king or anything). But there are certainly wheels out there with a similar style, like that AR wheel. I mean, 5-spoke wheels are plentiful. :)

That is a pretty good description of difference between Callaway and Challenge dymags. I looked at one set of Challenge rims but were pretty rough and not cheap. Still kicking myself for one Callaway Dymag I didn't buy at Bloomington Gold several years ago. ;shrug Didn't know that someday they would be on my constant watch list.

While there have been many threads on Dymags here, one thing I thought I would add is this - IMO, the open-lug style Dymag loks GREAT, and is fairly cheap when compared to other Dymag styles :upthumbs

They accept the Corvette center caps (smaller 90+ style) and come in 17x9.5 and 17x11's :cool

Unfortunately I believe the 17x11" rears were only made in GS offsets, not ZR-1 offsets (i.e. +50mm offset, not +36mm)

I agree, they are a great looking wheel. And they avoid the need for billion dollar '88-89 center covers. But they would require spacers to fit right on my car, and also they don't have any dish to indicate how much wider they are.

They came with spacers that attached to the wheel (at least that is what Randy at DRM said)

there was a set of silver ones 17x9.5 and 17x11 at Bloomington Gold in 2006.. he wanted $2500 for them.. boy they were pretty.. That open lug set is one if not my favorite wheel..

$2,500 bucks does not seem bad at all in today's market, esp. if the center caps were included!

One of the front wheels in that set, I had my hands on. Because it was a single wheel, I could have had it for the price of a nice garden hose-reel :W I passed... After all, what the heck is one Dymag good for ;squint:

On Dymags....most of them are not 20 years old.

No one should put a used set of Dymags which date to the late 80s on a car for stree use unless they've been 1) checked for cracking with a process designed to nondestructively test nonferrous metals and 2) inspected for any hydrogen enbribrttlement might be present.

Even today the Dymag design is a very sharp-looking wheel but as good-looking as it is, the materials with which it were made might not stand the tests of time.

Hib, there has not been any data to show any concern with these wheels. IN fact, the naysayers who said that 20 years ago, Reeves should not use a magnesium wheel on a street car, have been wrong. There are zero failures due to design.

That said, I was told that the only issue with a magnesium wheel, is when they get refinished, sometimes they are only cosmetically refinished and must be coated on ALL surfaces, not just the outside that one can see. If not, otherwise they turn black and will decompose.

Again, zero issues with these wheels and a proven track record.:beer

I remember from old Mid America catalogs they sold replica's in the early 90's
The above picture is that an old catalog ? or are there replica's on the market today ?

even when it is an alloy version I would buy them.
They are my favorite wheel design together with the C12 and run-flat wheels

:rotfl I agree that is an old catalog!! I don't have catalog but do have that page in my Callaway stuff!! That was always my favorite C-4 Rim! I remember when the owner of Corvette Fever put a set on his new 89 with lingenfelter motor! Put 17X11 on rear, was a red convertible! That was consirdered an exotic rim even then!! :upthumbs

Larry Dobbs, I remember the name and remember the car in those magazine issues :upthumbs

Here is a bit more related trivia:
There was a 1990 Callaway convertible (red/red) local to me that was never converted. Aside from the legendary RPO it had, it also wore a set of those Dymags (17x9.5"x17x11"). It has a Morrison 406, six-speed, and roll bar :ohnoes
