CRANES Super Lube Break-In Concentrate is an anti-wear additive formulated with a high concentration of special zinc dithiophosphate to provide sustained protection against cam lobe and lifter scuffing and wear. This oil supplement is to be added to the engine oil for the initial break-in period after the installation of a new camshaft and lifters.
Part No. 99003-1 -- 8-ounce container

In the ¨good old days¨ I coated all contact surfaces with STP during assembly. I am sure that it was better than a dry assembly but:eek:hnoes for the cam lobes, big ends, etc.

Now I always use the MFGs recommended lube or a Moly lub if the manufacturer does not suggest a specific lubricant.

The damage that can be done to the rotating stock on initial startup is beyond belief.

Renault, (do not get mad... they build the engines for our GP2 cars), made some impressive seminars with computer enhanced photos of mechanical failures caused by improper ¨first¨startup. Our engines are worth over $100K and come with a 3 season warranty unless they are ¨handled improperly¨ you can see everybody's interest in how the engines are run in.
