You guys need to know that when eBay sends out an invoice from a seller, it can contain a link within it that can take personal information from your computer. It's a cookie from "Doubleclick.net" and it can take personal information and send it to a server. I found out about this from an auction I won and I have my system set not to accept any cookies without my approval. This is how I found out about this….. I did bring it to EBay's attention but, all I got was this email below. If you use the invoice email link to paypal, it will attempt to put the cookie on your system, if you just go directly to your paypal account to pay for the auction (not use the email link), your fine.

Here is the response I got from Ebay;

We have investigated the email message you have reported and have
determined that it does not meet our definition of spam (unsolicited and commercial). Unfortunately, this means we will be unable to address this issue for you. After you win an auction you normally will get a message from aw-confirm@ebay.com.

Cookies are simply text files. They are NOT executable and do not SEND anything to anywhere.

This is true in the sense of a virus or spy-ware but they do allow the companies to track your activity and attempt to direct marketing to you as you surf the web.

Simply put, your wrong..
Is that so? Please post one then. If you can show me an executable cookie that can "steal" information off of your computer then I will give you my Corvette.

So does the very fact of visiting a site in the first place, doesn't it? Still, cookies do not "send" anything that isn't put there by the originating web server (i.e doubleclick.net.) and it is read by the server not sent by the cookie.

Something really strange is happening in this thread...everytime I open this thread I get this from Norton...I can go into any other thread and Norton doesn't do a thing...come back to this one and wala I get this pop up on my screen. :mad
