IM replacing my intake manifold do I want to keep the egr or go non-egr what is best Thanks

If you have a visual emisions inspection you'll have to have it.

As far as a performance issue it won't make much difference. I eliminated mine along with all AIR equipment for asthetic reasons and ease of working on the engine. If your car does not have classic PA tags don't get rid of the EGR. You'll be subjected to a visual smog inspection (under hood and cat conv.)sometime near December. Classic PA tags will set you back $100 but you'll not have to pay the $36 renewal each year.

If you don't like detonation, you'll have to have it. If you install a cam with a lot of overlap in the profile, you should be able to get along without it as long as you keep the heads a little cooler than optimal for power production.

If Chevrolet used an EST system with a knock sensor in 1981, we wouldn't be wrestling over whether or not to keep the EGR.

Incidentally, if the system is working properly, it isn't even a factor at throttle openings above about 20%. The EGR should never be open beyod that point. The worst thing about them is the location of the valve itself and the vacuum solenoid valve - right in the way of the rocker cover and distributor hold down bolt.

i agree. pita to take off the egr to take off a valve. But no where near as bad as the drivers side. ack.
