Engine Oil Life Monitor

I followed the procedure at CAC Tech Center to reset my "Engine Oil Life Montior" after oil change today. The "Change Engine Oil" does not start flashing... What is it I may be doing wrong? My car is 95 Coupe LT-1.

OBTW, I was not getting any warning before the oil change. I did the oil change since I have been driving the car for more than a year now with no change and I do not know when the previous owner changed it last time. So my mechanic thought it was a good idea. He also told me he did not like color of the oil when he ckeched it.

Any advice and thoughts are very welcome

Well I hate to admit it, but when I did mine the first time I could not get it to blink either.

I was expecting it to display in the center of the dash (information center).

After several attempts and moving my left arm which was blocking sight of it, I caught a glimpse. I didn't know it was on the left side of the tach.

Hmmmm, I know where it should blink; i.e. on the left side of the tach. But ıt never blinked although I repeated the same exact procedure a few times. I must be doing something wrong all the time. Can you please describe the procedure step by step for me?

It says "turn ignition to ON position". Is this not the position immediately before ignition; i.e. one before engine cranking starts???

1. TURN KEY TO RUN, BUT DON'T START
2. PRESS ENG MET BUTTON TWICE WITHIN 5 SECONDS
3. WITHIN 5 SECONDS PRESS & HOLD GAUGES BUTTON;
CHANGE OIL LIGHT WILL FLASH
4. HOLD GAUGE BUTTON UNTIL CHANGE OIL LIGHT STOPS FLASHING
& GOES OUT (SHOULD TAKE NO LONGER THAN 10 SECONDS)

FX GS, I followed the exact procedure gut the "Change Oil Light" never blinks... Can it the bulb for this light??? May be the bulb is gone

How long should I hold the "Gauges" button pressed in Step no.3 before the "Change Oil" light starts blinking???

I guess there could be a problem with the light, but....................
when you press the buttons, do so quickly, just press and release.........
they can't be held for more than 5 seconds..............review the directions I posted.

..... plus you gotta turn the ignition back to "off" and then back to "on" between retrys.

I read the complete chapter of the User's Manual for Engine Oil Change. It says that the "Change Oil" light should come up for a few seconds after ignition. I started the engine a few times and the light never came up. All of the other stuff is coming up though, like the Airbags, Brakes, etc etc etc. I have been unable to see the "Change Oil" light come up at all...
