Hi everyone
I have a ? on normal engine temperture. I a 2004 CE conv with 26,000 miles. I took it out tonight and stopped at fast food place ilded for adout five to ten minutes and the engine temp was floating between 200 to 233 degress. It was 11pm and the air temperture was about 78 degrees. Is this normal. Thanks as this is my first Corvette and I live in Las vegas and 78 degrees is nothing. I've had the vette for two and half years and never over heated but I don't ever recall the temp floating around like that. Maybe I never noticed it before .

I don't have a C5 but the top end range of 233 sounds high to me. Is your electric fan cycling on and off with the temp swing?

C5's run very hot, 233 is ok. Just to make sure check for any debris inside radiator cavity. I think the hi speed fans don't even come on till mid 220. Search the forum on thermostats and you will find the exact numbers.

Next time it gets this hot turn on the AC, that turns the fans on immediately and should knock down the temp to about 195 in a hurry. Old trick for anyone doing the parade thing.

Zagger is on point:thumb

C5s were designed to run at those temps.

I agree, you are within the correct operating temperature ranges....these things run hot normally...since day one brand new, my '04 gets up to 228 then the fans kick in and it goes down to 215...and on and on...its very normal...:beer

get a real radiator and it will stay at 192-195 even in 110 degree weather in traffic

while those temps are within range, I prefer 190's to 230's

For a stock C5 with no major modifications (H/C swap, S/C, LT headers) changing the operating temperature of the engine is a waste of time and money, IMHO. Stay stock, stay happy.

Thanks Everyone for the feed back on my post. I feel alot better now. Everyone on this site are the best. If anyone ever gets to Vegas let me know . We have a great Corvette club here.

I agree...the C5 was engineered to run at higher temps...thats why there are 2 auxillary fans...to keep it within the engineered range of 215-228 when in traffic...its perfectly normal and not normal to run way below operating temperatures that were designed best for the stock C5. If you are going to build a drag racer out of your Vette then it would be wise to get one of those expensive all aluminum radiators.:bash

thanks zagger for input it made me feel a lot better
George Mc let me know if you ever get to Vegas

:beer
Don't get to Vegas as much as I used to. I had a different saying back then " What you bring with you to Vegas, stayed in Vegas" ;).

Hi Zagger
You got that right! I tell every one that comes see those fancy casinos they don't build them on winners. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas including your money.
Thanks again for information
George

WAS IN A 1.6 MILE PARADE. GOING 3 MPH. HEAT WENT TO 230, FANS CAME ON BACK TO 218. NO OTHER PROBLEMS.

:welcome
Welcome, I did few parades here in San Diego. It gets pretty hot here in the summer and there is always some stretches with an uphill crawl. Keeping the AC on will keep the temp down.
