Have all the EPC (Early Performance Christmas) stuff in the garage, and the old exhaust removed. I'm ready to roll - but wait - figure I need that good old advice I always get here.

For those of you that did not read my earlier EPC post (shame on you), I just bought Hooker ceramic coated equal length headers, an MSD billet tach drive distributer and 6AL and have started the install.

While I am doing this install I plan to remove the charcoal/vapor canister (disconnected since the Demon install). My thoughts were to install it in the back next to the gas tank to take care of the vapor line coming out of the top of the gas tank. Any thoughts here?

What other things should I do while doing all of this? I will put the heat boots on the plug wires, that one I have covered. I may go ahead and replace the fuel pump while the compressor is out of the way and run braided line to it (blue Aeroequip today). I also have removed the center cross member and will sandblast it and a few small parts and either paint or powdercoat.

What else should I consider doing while I have it high up on jack stands and partially taken down?
 
Hijinx, Does your 73 have air conditioning and power steering? Please keep us up on how the installation is going. I am planning on headers and the MSD tach drive on my engine upgrade. I hope your install goes easily. Fred
 
OK, so it looks like the only place (without fabrication of a mount plate) for the MSD 6AL is where the charcoal canister is located. Where else do you guys have them mounted?
 
Hijinx, Which(part number) Hooker headers did you buy? Ordered or in DFW? Find any bargains? Fred.:grinsanta

I've seen a pic where a guy had a 6 box mounted in the wiper well of his C3 ... it was a wiper door car ... but maybe no matter.

Many seem to fab a plate and mount near middle of passenger front fender ... just rear of wheel. Some mount between headlight actuators.

I may try to mount my 6 box in upper left quadrant of passenger foot well/dash ... seldom carry passenger ... they know how spirited I can get.

Although 1969 models did not come with a charcol canister, I installed one from a late model S series truck to eliminate the stinky gas odor while parking it in my house garage.

I in fact installed mine on a hand made simple neat and clean bracket to the right rear frame rail behind the right rear tire in about the same spot you would find the power antenna on the driver side.

Nobody knows it is there, it is out of site, and does a great job soaking up the stinky vapors.

Other mods while it is up in the air? Can't think of any at the moment, other than taking a scrub brush to the belly of the car, and topping it off with some nice Urothane textured coating.

Of course, this is an excellent opportunity to at least run the plumbing for the next ECP (NOS lines) so that you can mount the bottle of happy gas in the rear spare tire well, and the go baby go button somewhere on the dash.
 
FC3, I bought the headers here in Dallas, and they were not a bargin. However, I know they fit. The part number is #2134-1.

Chris, You figure I should get one of those like you did to replace my old one? The location you put yours was exactly where I was planning to put mine. Great minds think alike. Mine reaks of fuel, it could probably use replacing. Did you get yours from a junk yard or somewhere eles?

Hmmmmm, a bottle baby? Sure would like that 'Go, baby, Go' logo sittin under the ash tray cover. Possibly where the lighter used to be? Might be a plan. Figure it is a good time to brush some rust off and possibly POR the rear of the frame. Thought I might run new fuel lines possibly. I figure I will have her down for a while, taking my time. Sure hate to miss the car shows, right now.
 
I went to Chevy and bought a brand new 1987 Chevy S10 canister for about $35 or so. It is a simple two hose mount, so you can set a suction from the intake manifold if you want.

Picked up the MDS extension cable, heat boots for the plug wires, and a new Holly fuel pump yesterday. Figure since I am in there I should replace that. Since putting the pressure gauge on the fuel line I have noticed fluxuations in my pressure. Could be causing some of my fuel problem at the carb. Hope to get over to to Chevy dealer today to see if I can get a canister. Then the main thing I will need is the fuel line I would like to replace to the tank.

Do I go with OEM fuel line, or fabricate my own? Looks easy till you get to the rear suspension. Looks like a lot of bends there.

What did you do Chris? Do you still have a metal tank, or did you switch to a fuel cell?
 
MSD 6AL Mounting

Mounted MSD 6AL Ignition box on passenger side fender well of my 72. This location puts it out of the way. Used rubber isolation mounts to secure it to the inner fender to prevent vibration.

STock style 69 gas tank, and I added a vent tube for the charcol can.

Fuel line is not that hard to bend and fit.
 
Well, I plan to get up in the morning and start tackling the headers and under car stuff (pulling old lines out and such). Did not get a chance to find the charcoal canister today. Will make a few calls tomorrow. So much fun doing all this, I love these kind of weekends!!!!!

I don't know the under-hood layout of the 73, but I mounted my ignition system up between my power brake booster and wiper motor. Though I don't know if the MSD unit will fit there on your car.

Yea, I thought about that. The MSD unit won't fit there, its too long. I have seen one mounted where the charcoal canister was, but its impossible to get to there and drilling the mounting holes will not be easy. I may just fabricate a mount. I'll let you guys know.

Looks like, when I had all the brake work done my frame line running to the back did not get mounted back. Its hanging loose. Nice, for the amount of money I spent getting it all done!:mad
 
What do you guys think about removing the stock radiator overflow/fill tank on the passenger side and mounting the 6AL there? I could get a street rod style overflow tank somewhere else. What do ya'll think?

Wow, I traced down the fuel and return lines and they look like tough replacements without the body off the frame! Who would have thought that the lines would run on TOP of the frame!

So, since I have no plans to remove the body to do this work, I need to take a new route and cut the old lines that run down the side frame rails out. I figure 3/8 hard line would be best. Has anyone run braided from front to back? Probably cost prohibitive.

I could use some ideas on this one. :confused
 
There is nothing wrong with running good quality rubber hose from front to rear.

In fact, the Edelbrock Pro Flo EFI came with about 16' of 3.8" flex rubber line and they highly recommend that to be used.

You can feed it up and through the frame channel, you just have to take you time.

I had initially installed all hard lines on my car when the body was off the frame. When I got the EFI started, the body was on the frame. I ended up having to re-plumb the whole darn thing and use my initial 3/8 hard line as the return. It is a long story, but anyway I am here to tell you that you CAN thread the new hose through the rear part of the frame in front of the rear tire with the body on.

Go to Napa and buy the good quality MPI (multi port injected) rated flexible line in 3/8". Run it through the frame in the right rear kick up of the frame. You can then put a nice in line fuel filter on the inside of the right frame rail to junction the flexible rubber line or braided if you choose with a hard line from there to the front of the car. That way you are only running about 5' of rubber/braided.
