Exaust system question

I have been thinking of eliminating the resonators on my 92 lt1 and am confused as to what my car has on it, as a stock system. I can identify 2 cats upfront then a single muffler in the center. I keep reading that the 2 cats are pre-cats and the center "muffler is a cat. On my car it does not look like a cat and has no heat shield? Then it goes back to the resonator, which I have been told can be removed to improve the sound of the exaust. What do I have and do you agree?
Thanks

On my 93 there is a cat on each side then the pipes lead to the resonator and the to each muffler. I thought only the L98's had precats.

You have a LT1 that means you have two cats that go in to a resonator then to the mufflers The single muffler in the center is the resonator.
I have removed the resonator on mine and replaced it with a Dr.Gas X crossover and also change to dyno max super turbo mufflers, and the results were good, no resonance and a sane sound level.

hey grapeknutz, what size crossover did you get from dr. gas?

I got 2 1/2 dia. pipe.
The stock dia. is 2 3/4 but the pipe (2 1/2) will fit inside the pipe.
If you order from Dr.Gas have them make it 2 inches longer as the X pipe is a bit short.
Good luck.
