I have done this on 93 to 96 LT1 and LT4 equipped cars. It’s very simple and costs about 3 bucks for a nice chrome switch. The original workings of the fans are not affected, you can just override any time you want, but the computer will still turn them on and off if you don’t. This is for both fans, and with a 160 Therm, the temp on my 95 LT1 never goes above 190 in hot traffic. (100 plus day last summer.) I always solder and heat shrink tube rap all wires. As you are only connecting them to a “ground” there is little chance of blowing a fuse or doing any damage.
When looking in the wire bundle, the thicker wires carry power (+) and the thin ones are mostly ground wires. If you cut and ground the wrong one during “testing” it should be no problem, just repair the cut.
I used a digital mulitimeter with a needle like probe to pierce the wire without cutting. Both wires are soldered together and run back to the switch, the other pole on the switch just goes to a metal part on the inside underpanel of the dash board, solder an eyelet to the end of the wire and screw it down. Wire thickness is not an issue as little current goes through it.
