Finally under construction

Sounds like everyone is moving right along....I've kin dof had my contractor friend pushing me along....he keeps coming down asking if I'm ready for this and ready for that....makes get it in gear so his subs can come over and get busy. His guys finished up the roof last nite and his brick sub is supposed to start this weekend. Need to get the house wrap on and the windows in so thay can start.

That leaves me with electrical, driveway, garage door, landscaping, sprinkler system re-route.....I wish the Texas heat would break!

Congrats on the asphalt and hurry home HD, that door is waiting!

I will also be painting the floor when I get home. I was going to paint it last time I was home but the instructions on the paint bucket says that the concrete needs to age at least 30 days.

To help me hang the door I had to buy a new toy. Bought one of these to help:

I think the bucket will reach to the top of the door opening. I'll have two weeks to play and get the garage done and to take the kids swimming. It has been kind-a hot here too. In fact, it's been so hot the horses are even trying to give me a hint:eek :

At least the vettes are out of the sun and heat.

That is absolutely hilarious!
I'm stuck debating paint for the floor or doing black and white checkerboard tile...hot boat trailer tires shouldn't affect the tile but it may affect the paint. I can do the tile over the 'crete no matter what, no acid etching, etc.....not sure I wanna deal with paint, I've heard so many horror stories. Paying to get paint done here is expensive and this has run me more than I expected anyway.
I likey the new toy....us city slickers like that stuff that makes us feel out in the country (Ga. redneck at heart)!
Brickers are coming tomorrow morning instead of Saturday, somehow I feel like I'm running on someone else timeline but it's making me get this done faster.
Think I'm gonna relax this weekend, I've been on this project since March, time for a little boating, jet skiing, beer drinkin'. Might even drag the 'ol '68 out the garage. I haven't even cranked her since I started this project. She's covered up but always ends up being an extra shelf.

No it's not a photo-chopped pic. I use to own the horse but sold her. The lady that bought her keeps her at my place. The horse is a ham and will let you do anything to her if she thinks she is going to get a treat out of the deal. The owner sent me the pic last week. She looks as though she is lost with all that stuff on her:L. please don't e-mail PITA. Last thing I need is to have them pay a visit. Horsey abuse.

If you don't paint or cover the concrete with something I was told, by the contractor, that once oil gets into the concrete it is really hard to get out. So i figure that painting was the way to go. Sometimes i use our auto hobby shops here on post. They paint the floors about once every 5 years. They don't look all that bad. Plus it is cheap to spot paint when the times comes.

Tires, hot or cold, WILL permanently stain ordinary floor tile, especially in light colors; the oils in the tire will migrate into the tile surface, and you can't remove the stains. Checkerboard tile garage floors look pretty neat when they're first installed, but a few years later they don't look nearly as good.

Final inspection was done last week, no write-ups there...
Started on the tile floor, hung some peg board, drank some beer.
Spent a day about a month ago jackhammering the driveway, got it rebarred this weekend, just need them to come pour now. Then it's more garage organization and final landscaping. It's a mess now but hopefully soon it will be cabinets, shelves, no clutter and nothing on the floor.

How you guys doing? Hope all is well, looks like Texas finally got around to fall, guess I'll be hunting a heat source as well.

Man i sure like that floor. Beats my garage gray painted floor. The guys are coming to hang the garage door next month. I just hope the little critters (mice, rats, rodents) have not already set up house keeping. Thats ok though. I'll just lock the cats in the garage for a couple of days, let them get good and hungery, and let them clean them out:L. If that doesn't work I'll find me a Black snake and turn him lose in the garage.

Next summer I'll be doing the elec work. Right now I am trying to decide where to place everything. I'm also trying to decide to do with buried cable or plant poles to the building. I like the idea of no poles because they would have to be planted in my pasture. So that means potential tractor targets when I am mowing the pasture:crazy. The only draw back is if i have to re-plant the pastures. I'll have to make sure the cable is deep enough so the tillage equipment doesn't come in contact with it.

I guess mine is a work-in-progress. I do need to get one of those signs like '67heaven has " Caution, Men playing" so in the future there are no interruptions.

The local rules here, were something like this:

if metal conduit: could be 12 inches deep
if pvc/soft conduit: needed to be 18 inches deep
if direct bury cable: needed to be 24 inches deep.

I used direct bury cable and used a pick axe to dig my trench. 24 inches deep, 30 something feet over to the new construction. Depending on how far you have to go, you might want to rent a trencher. I would suggest 24 inches deep no matter what form of conduit etc you use. Tillage equipment should be fine with that right?

I would think 24" would be deep enough to prevent the tillage equipment from digging it up. I want to also go with direct bury cable. However, being on the coast we do have a rather shallow water table. So that may preclude me from burying the cable. I'll have to check with the power company.

I have thought about going right down the middle of the road with the cable. I haven't paved it yet but I plan on paving it in the future and I would know where the cable is buried. Therefore avoiding a major screw up. It is about 300 - 400 feet from the main elec poles to the building. I think a friend of mine has a trencher that can be tractor mounted and is PTO driven. If i had to do it with a pick axe that would take many beers and lots of sweat. It would be much easier to sit on the tractor drinking beer and let the tractor do the digging.

Man i sure like that floor.

Thanks HD, the more I lay the more I like it. My neighbor was bored (and trying to quit smoking) so he came over and we laid another 100 sq. ft or so...probably another 200 at the front to go.
Now I'm trying to dream up a way to inlay a C5 emblem in it.
I hope it holds up over time, think I'll throw some spares or old carpet under the boat tires just in case.
Need to wrap this floor job up, get a coat of wax on it so I can start moving some stuff in.

It's great your bud has a trencher, that should make quick work of it and you shouldn't have to worry about it ever again. I can't see direct burial cable being a problem with a shallow water table.

Finally...

Got the floor waxed tonite....it looks too good to pull a Vette or boat in there..
The solid white area at the front will be an inlaid C5 emblem when I get around to it. More cabinets and countertop tomorrow.
As long as I have spent on this project I'll probably need Gilligans hammock cuz I'lll be sleeping out there....

Thanks ruby.....I'm gonna inlay the emblem with the same tile...I have some black and white leftover and I bought some red. Thats down the road though.
Gonna be another long project cutting tile and laying it in.
