fresh air for 92

has anyone tried using a pre 92 air box on an LT 1.?
it seems smaller , so since it takes up less space it would leave room to access the high presure area in the nose with only a some minor hole sawing and pipeing....what do ya think??

I think that the reason that air box was on the old Vette, and the newer Vette has a bigger air box is becasue the new air box is better.

Dont get me wrong, great idea and creative thinking, but the Vette was designed by GM's Best and the new air box is in there for a reason.

thanx....i think those guys at gm are way smarter than me...but...they have to comply with epa..cia...fbi...etc...etc...etc....and...there seems to be NO fresh air inlet on this larger air box..am i wrong? or does it just suck hot air from the engine bay?

True, but the car uses Bernoulli's principal to suck in cold air from outside the car with the front spoiler.

I can understand where your coming from because the air has to pass something hot before it gets into the engine.

I was thinking something similar. At Mid-America they sell a front spoiler with air ducts in the sides for brake cooling. But if you direct thoes into the engine compartment maybe you could get cold air in there?

my only concern is that $140 is a lot for something that will most likely get damaged

it just seems to me like we are wasting all that air from the radiator inlet. a small opening near the front on that bulkhead would allow pleny of fresh air and not compromise the air flow to the radiator....if only the air box did not take up all that space it would be simple to redirect this fresh air to the top of the air box..
and considering the size of the opening in the stock lid..most of the filter is wasted anyway.
im hip to the scoop you mentioned..but as yet i dont see the need for that thing..it would work well at speed but for acceleration and daily driving would probably offer no real advantage..

If you want more cool air, why not just buy a used air cleaner lid and cut the top ?

that still doesnt give you cool air...the air from the cut top is the same source as the factory top..
we need fresh air from outside the car ..
it's free horsepower...and better fuel economy..
i dont know about this corvette motor but on my LT1 Z-28 i brought fresh air in from in from of the lower chin spoiler and the difference was obvious..
tire smoke-ability was increased dramaticly.
and on a cool evening..it was difficult to launch..
then one cool nite...i hit a slick spot on a twisty mountain road and....
and now i have a corvette...lol
