Dave Hill was quoted in the NCM magazine:

"We will be testing the (Beta C6's) around the world this summer," said Hill, during the Q&A revealed that: the C6 will be released first as a Coupe, then Convertible, with the Z06 following a year later; interior spaciousness in the passenger and cargo areas will be "just as strong," but "we've been working to get rid of the exterior bulk...to make it lighter and more agile", the C6 will feature "all new interior colors", it will be quieter; it "will stay with an analog speedometer" and the next generation heads-up display will be pretty awesome."

"working to get rid of exterior bulk" ha! it looks like a barge with those fenders! The new HUD will feature HVAC readings as well as radio and others.

Sounds pretty cool. Can you get the mag online?

Thanks.

Greg

Looking forward to seeing some real pic's and interior shots.

The basic layout is that of the XLR. It does not have the "center stack" appearence like the XLR. The dash eases into the stack area and the stack and dash are made to look like one flowing piece not like 3 pieces as in the C5 now and XLR.

To my knowledge, the mag is only available via mail to members of the NCM

When asked about "remote" radio controls in the past, Hill has said that the Vette's steering wheel is for pointing the sports car only. Maybe there has been a change. Touch screens are not easy to control when keeping your eyes on the road. Perhaps the new heads up will have a steering wheel selection to change radio stations and turn the A/C up, but will "sleep" when not in use?

Just an opinion but.....

Isn't it time to retire the Z06 and create a new high performance option? Every fourth Vette coming off the assembly line at BG is a Z06. An awesome car to say the least, but I think GM should create a new option for a new generation Vette.. Am I wrong for thinking this?

Nick

Since the engine designation is LS7, I have heard some suggest that Z07 might be appropriate. Others have suggested ZL-1. The list of possibilities is long, but I doubt if too many care much about the label placed on the highest performance vette. Most care more about results - the level of the performance. IMO.

Z07 would be fine I guess. I just want GM to create new option codes instead of rehashing old ones. Like the LT-1's and ZR1's.

The Z07 was used for the Adjustable Suspension Package back in the 90's. You'd think that they could be original enough to create a new one. The ZL-1 was an extremely rare option back in '69 (L-88 Aluminum Block). You would have to have one heck of an engine to live up to that history. Which is all the more reason to establish new RPO's.

How about SS? Zora coined the name for his first high performance vette and it has been used on almost all chevies except the Vette. Maybe it's time.

I could also get behind a name that honored Zora. The ZAD, AD , D, or Zora. Vette history owes him much.

Agreed. How about a engine option codenamed Duntov?

SlowRide, actually, there was a Duntov cam profile that was part of an engine configuration back in C3 times, if memory serves. You may have a point for designating the LS7 engine (if that is the final code designation) the Duntov engine. The Z06 has earlier roots; so why not tace back to earlier roots again?

Z07 was actually a suspension code for the heavy duty suspension. FX3 was a stand alone for the "adjustable ride control" FX3 was just included in on the Z07 package, same thing with the Z51.

Who cares if they keep using the same ones. It shows heritage. I could care less about a redesigned HUD and other fluff crap.... GIVE ME AN ENGINE!!!!

;LOL ;LOL A man after my own heart! Personally, I couldn't agree with him more. On the one hand, steering wheel radio buttons are handy as I've used them in a Pontiac Grand Am, but in a Corvette - leave them out. Just my opinion of course. ;)

Since my earlier post I've seen bits of comments attributed to Hill that now make me believe that the sound system / HUD will probably have the XLR wheel controls. But we won't know 'til we see it.

Hmmmm.....I'll reserve judgement till I actually get to sit in a production model. :)
