After being "Vette-less" for several years I have recently acquired two C-4 roadsters, a 1988 and a 1995. I am not a mechanic, although I try to do the "easy" tasks.

I recently took my 95 into the local Chevy dealership to correct a couple of problems. (cruise control and gas guage) It soon became apparent that these folks new only slightly more than I in some areas and even less in others.

Does anyone know of a reliable and affordable Corvette person in the Fresno, Clovis or Madera California vicinity?

i do not know of any shop on that side, but if you feel comfortable, the fuel sending unit is fairly easy to do.
the problem is that the sending unit assembly, where the fuel pump mounts, the connectors would go bad and they would burn up, or you just have a bad sending unit. does the guage move at all?
if you wanted to do the sending unit, you would take out that liner where your gas cap is, then simply take off the fuel lines and unbolt the unit. it comes out from the top, not to bad to do.

hope this helps to make a decision to take it to a repair shop or not

Gas guage

Matty

Before taking the car in to the garage the gas guage registered empty all of the time, upon picking up the car I was told that it probably needs a new sending unit, which would cost about $550.00 (but they are no longer carried) plus $200 - $300 labor. I passed on this plan and drove the car home. I noticed right away that the guage was now showing over 3/4 full and a "range" of 305 miles.

I have driven the car another 100 miles since then and both these items are still showing 3/4 full and 305 range.

The computer appears to be showing the correct MPG both instantaneous and per trip.

The last sending unit i bought was for a 89 and the unit was 275.00 from GM. this did not have the fuel pump, but it sound like all you need is the sending unit assy.

hey im from fresno also but i dont really know of any good mechanics

Fresno guy

DO you belong to a local Vette club? If so when and where do they meet?

nope i dont belong to a club i just got my vette. Ive been trying to fix it. Im paranoid now to drive it, cause i got a speeding ticket in my my other car.

When I bought my Vette the cruise didn't work on it either. I found the problem to be a vacuum leak with a 3 way splitter under the passenger side fuel rail cover. The splitter is plastic and it was broke. If I remember right the cost was about $4.00.
