fuel pump question

When checking the presure of the fuel pump outlet should the test gauge give a constant reading. Just checked mine with a standard 0 to 15 preasure gauge and the reading pulsed as I cranked the engine. Also noticed when I removed the fuel line from carb for test there was no preasure on the line. Sure seems like every other time I did this fuel spays out of the hose. Thanks guys for any advise you can give me

The gage will pulse with the pump. Many of the better fuel pump gages are oil filled to help dampen out the pulses.
