GM phasing out MercuryMarine on the LT5?

I will have to respectfully disagree with this theory of
the LT1 and ZR1 being too close in performance.I owned
2 LT1 corvettes and now own a 91 ZR1.The performance of
the LT1's was not even close to the performance of my ZR1.
The magazines did not know how to drive a ZR1,hence the
poor performance figures. And everyone just talks about the
0-60 and quarter mile.From a 50-60 roll a ZR1 has and will
leave an LT1,LT4,LS1 corvette standing still.I have done it
and seen it happen.Case in point.Motor Trend gets a 13.5
quarter mile time for a 1994 ZR1.I go to the drag strip with
a friend who makes his very first pass in the quarter mile
in his totally stock 94 ZR1.On I believe his 4th pass he runs
a 12.9.That was his first time at the strip with the ZR1 and
the weather was very humid. And I am positive with more
practice 12.6's-12.7's were there for the taking.I raced his
94 ZR1 several times and on the freeway it was like fighting
a one armed man.He beat me like a red headed step child.
The LT1 could never and will never be able to compete with
a ZR1 in a speed contest.It is simply impossible.To 150
a ZR1 would beat a LT1 by a LEAST 7-8 SECONDS.
Look at what the 91 ZR1 did to the Turbo 911 Porsche from
0-150.It anniliated it! It proved that once the cars were rolling
the ZR1 showed its muscle. The car mags could not drive
ZR1's off the line!
Just my 2 cents!

Good points, 91zr1. I have heard the same thing from other people--that in an already moving/highway race, the ZR-1 will rip everyone a new one, because it has incredible acceleration at almost any RPM level. I find that to be very attractive/useful.

OBD II

Ultimately GM used OBD II compliance as the official reason to cancel the LT5 if I remember correctly. They did not want to certify it to that level due to the extra cost +++.
