Well, as many of you know my 90 has gone through some substantial mods over the last year, yet it is for the most part one of the most stock clean looking 90 Polo green coupes around. Don't let the good clean looks fool you.

Since I rebuilt the entire suspension, upgraded to larger brakes, and installed the 3.75 gears I really have not driven it much. When I did drive it, it seemed a little off.

Well, I had left the exhaust sitting outside on my trailer while the car was in pieces and it rained in the pipes several times before I covered them up. My new 3 wire O2 sensor got soaked...and I did not think anything of it.

I pulled the codes and found it it was toast.

I tossed a new one in there yesterday and went for a cruise with Nikki last night.

All I can say is WOW! The miniram, heads, cam, headers, gears, and fresh suspension/clutch are all working in sync for some mind bending performance. It is explosive in terms of the quick throttle response (thank you single mass flywheel conversion!), and tire roasting 6,000 RPM sprints.

Here is the bad part. I tried to launch several times running the car up to about 100 mph. I basically spent 1st and 2nd bouncing off 6,500 RPM just roasting the tires. I have to speed shift into 3rd before it really starts to bite...then it is pushing 100 and I am letting out of it.

This means that although it is awesome, sounds cool, feels great....I could get stomped by a stock 90 that gets traction for the first 50 yards or so.

I guess I gotta really work on the old right foot and remember I ain't in an L98 anymore--and even though the S02s are sticky, they can't hold back the rush of power that 3.75 gear generates from letting the motor spin.

For now, I will keep my killing to a minimum as I am my own worst enemy (ie, throwing it into first instead of third on my last kill attempt..DOH!).

As Nikki tells me, I need to learn how to drive!

See how mild she looks just sitting there with girly man polo green paint and cute little chrome plated rims........

NICE! It took me awhile to get used the extra HP. The best thing is to drive it allot until you get the feel for it. :beer

And that's just down your cal-de-sac:D.

Hmmm... I've been thinking of putting on a Corsa exhaust, SLP intake, and 4.10 gears for my LT4 vette.

Now you make me really wonder if the 4.10's won't just spin the tires and nothin else. Are you saying that you're just spinning the tires off the line... or that the tires already have achieved grip, but actually spin out again as the rpm gets into the high band?

The former can obviously be controlled with a good launch. But the latter...

Both, but mostly just plain driver error. I don't drive the car enough anymore to get a good feel for it. The cooler weather is making the tires less sticky as well.

I think 4:10 is overkill (at least it would be for me). Ken is running the 3.75 in his car, and now that I am, I can say it is about the perfect combo for a street based car. Top end has suffered, but I have no business going 150 mph anyway.

Chris,

I remember you posted a few months ago when you raced the wife against her C5.

How does your 90' compare to the C5 in terms of brute force and acceleration?

Hmmm... my 6 speed already has 3.45 gears... going to 3.73 from there doesn't seem like a big enough change to be worth the money it would cost.

But then, if 4.10's would just spin... but I've had my heart kinda set on them...

Decisions decisions...

Gear choice is a big decision, too. Since it's always a trade off any way you go.

What are other folks experiences with 4.10's and 3.73's?

Btw, I think your polo green vette looks very nice. I think it's a stretch to call it a sleeper though. Even the slowest vettes are still pretty fast cars.

Heh. I had a ricer camry try to race me last night. I didn't even notice he was racing at first, but I heard his farter exhaust at full throttle and noticed him moving ahead of me a little as I was just taking off normally. Pushed the gas down all the way, and he completely disappeared behind me in no time flat. Funny watching him (eventually) pull up to me again at the next light and try to look like he didn't get his rear end kicked. These vettes are really fast cars.

And yours is even faster than normal. Feels good, don't it?

It is much more harsh, vicious, and it will pound you into the seat harder between gears.

Chris, what about BFG Drag Radials? They bite really good. I might be selling my 315's with only 1 run on them....

This interesting, because a friend just offered me a set of 17x11 ZR1 offset billet rims (can't remember the brand) that are just sitting around.

How much for the tires?

Looks like a "NICE" vette....would never know you had all that power.....
Congrat's....
Hats off to you...
