Well, as many of you know my 90 has gone through some substantial mods over the last year, yet it is for the most part one of the most stock clean looking 90 Polo green coupes around. Don't let the good clean looks fool you.
Since I rebuilt the entire suspension, upgraded to larger brakes, and installed the 3.75 gears I really have not driven it much. When I did drive it, it seemed a little off.
Well, I had left the exhaust sitting outside on my trailer while the car was in pieces and it rained in the pipes several times before I covered them up. My new 3 wire O2 sensor got soaked...and I did not think anything of it.
I pulled the codes and found it it was toast.
I tossed a new one in there yesterday and went for a cruise with Nikki last night.
All I can say is WOW! The miniram, heads, cam, headers, gears, and fresh suspension/clutch are all working in sync for some mind bending performance. It is explosive in terms of the quick throttle response (thank you single mass flywheel conversion!), and tire roasting 6,000 RPM sprints.
Here is the bad part. I tried to launch several times running the car up to about 100 mph. I basically spent 1st and 2nd bouncing off 6,500 RPM just roasting the tires. I have to speed shift into 3rd before it really starts to bite...then it is pushing 100 and I am letting out of it.
This means that although it is awesome, sounds cool, feels great....I could get stomped by a stock 90 that gets traction for the first 50 yards or so.
I guess I gotta really work on the old right foot and remember I ain't in an L98 anymore--and even though the S02s are sticky, they can't hold back the rush of power that 3.75 gear generates from letting the motor spin.
For now, I will keep my killing to a minimum as I am my own worst enemy (ie, throwing it into first instead of third on my last kill attempt..DOH!).
As Nikki tells me, I need to learn how to drive!
