Got Bad News...

Decided to install a Speedi-sleeve...better safe than sorry.
Nappa gave a me a great price, they're winning more of my business :thumb

Well, just got the call...the second set of re-manufactured stub-shafts are in (supposedly my originals).
Looks like I'll be burning another $45 in diesel fuel + tolls to go get them > on Friday.
Keeping fingers crossed!

Ray
At a minimum they should ship them out to you today, Free of charge and you will have them on Friday without spending another dime. That is what I would have done, anyone with business sense would do the same for you.

Well, there should be more people like you, sadly there aren't.
The retailer didn't offer and I didn't ask but, I did mention I'm out another 85 mile round trip with the added expense of it all (almost $100.00) + my time.
I never should have left with the junk that was handed to me.
No doubt the owner of 'these' beat-up stub axles lost his core deposit, and they were put back into circulation vs being junked like they should have been.

Again? After driving to get 'em?? :mad

Well, today I again drove 90 miles (round trip) to pick-up what I'm told are my 'original yokes'...they appear to be but I can't be 100% positive.

Anyhow, they look a lot better then the prior beaten to death pieces I returned and, the journal/seal area is free of pits & nicks > just like mine were.

Honestly though, when I ask a retailer (any retailer) what the Rockwell hardness of these 'pressed-on tips & center shaft' are, and the reply is >"it's harder then OE"...I just have to wonder. :eyerole

What's the plan now?

Sell this GM junk 'as-is' and buy a 25th anniversary Lamborghini Countach :thumb

Ok, the above was a pipe dream...
tomorrow, if everything goes to acording to plan...I'll install the posi unit back into the diff case. In will go the yokes and center-shaft and hopefully bolt the batwing/rear cover to the front.

I'll let that sit overnight then, hopefully, Sunday the diff will be bolted up under the car.
Then...the trailing arms and 1/2 shafts the next day.

Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary Specifications

Like most petrolhead kids, I had the Countach poster (you know which one I mean) :) on the wall next to Farrah Fawcett poster (you know which one I mean) :D. The Corvette obsession started around the same time when my uncle showed up to visit driving an Ontario Orange coupe... :BOW

Too funny...and yes I know those posters all too well.
During my youth I remember having a Matchbox Corvette car and telling myself I would one day own one.
I never actually had Fara in the flesh but still had her many times...and I'm still keeping my hopes up for the Lambo lol

I might have that same Matchbox Corvette somewhere... Green, if memory serves...

From what I've heard of the Countach, I'm not sure I really want one anymore. Mind you, if someone gave one to me... :chuckle

Reman yokes & center shaft in...
For the past two months, my way too small garage aka 'Hell'...notice the license plate.
Diff going back up to it's home...yes, I took it out and back up myself.
Diff in...'about time!'

Observation...the front diff mount calls for 65 foot lbs of torque however, it looks like the rubber is going to blow-out or split. Tomorrow I'm taking the torque number down to 50 ft lbs of torque.
Hopefully, tomorrow I'll have both trailing arms bolted in.

Hello Ray,

I don't remember if i torqued the front rubber to 65. If you think that is to much just loosen it a little.
Tip when you're installing the drive shaft. Put an old shirt in the space between the chassis and front diff mount. When a little bolt or nut rolls under there you will not like it!

Greetings Peter

I think I've got yet ANOTHER issue...I drove 90 miles to purchase Trailing arm bushing and also to have the retailer/shop press them in.
I'm just noticing, on one side of both arms, the 'flair' is sticking out past the thick washer.
As a result, the Trailing Arm shim won't be sitting on the broad flat washer but siting on the smaller flared end.
This can't be correct.
EDIT...thanks to Gary/GTR1999, I just found out this is common and the 'flair' needs to be grinded flush.
But I still must point the finger at the shop (I paid) that handed them back to me this way, and not telling me they had to be grinded flush.

Both Trailing Arms are in...bout time!

After giving this set-up some looking over it appears (to me) the TA bushing outer metal jacket is indeed designed to be pinched/held fast to the shim-pack and pocket. This would validate the torque numbers GM wants on that castle nut.
The TA is NOT supposed to pivot on the through bolt.
BTW...it is advised, before tightening the castle nut to first make sure the TA is at normal ride height.
