So I'm riding up 400 in Atlanta yesterday in the Expedition minding my own business when I saw the cop cars and 50 motorcycles in procession. Toys for Tots thing. But wait..

In front of them are the Vettes! About 30 or so. ZR-1, cherry C-4s,
a bunch of C-2s including Mr. Split '63, a guy with a trailer and a hog behind a '64. Only a couple of the 'new' kind.

Then there it was, The Admiral. That white stripe just says it all to me. I thought it was the coolest, meanest looking one. I got a red '96. Someday I'll have one of those blue ones. It was nice to see one on the hoof and not rat-holed in a garage.

You express my sentiments exactly about "The Admiral"...or, in my case, "The Diva"!!!

It's kind of funny, I owned my GS for over 3 years, and I only saw a GS (other than mine) on the road 2 times in that 3 years. Both times, my jaw dropped at how beautiful they are crusing down the highway. :D

I bought my GS to drive. Granted it's not a daily driver, but if I can't enjoy it some then why have it! But, it's rare to see another one on the road.

i bought a coupe and vert. skunk when they came out. the only time i saw another one was at shows, not while driving. sold the coupe 3 years ago and just sold the vert and ordered a 04 Z. the G.S.'s are great looking and driving rides.

Welcome Jack!

Welcome to Corvette Action Center.
Your hometown caught my eye, my husband and I manage to get to Inverness several times a year with friends who have a vacation house at Inverness on a lake.
I'll give you a holler next time we're heading that direction.
Heidi :w

If you're ever around Germantown, Maryland you might spot me making a grocery store run in GS coupe #0872. I bought it last spring and have put about 5,000 miles on it since. I've taken it on trips to Indiana and Ohio and to Carlisle. It's a blast to drive. My only problem is keeping the rear tires hooked up. New rubber should fix that someday.

By the way, there were about 50 Grand Sports in the Grand Sport Registry's corral at 2003 Carlisle. Hopefully, we'll be back there next year.

skyguy, you running EMT's on your G.S.? if so, that is your answer on hooking up. my cpe. had regular goodyears and vert. had EMT's, was like night and day. the EMT compound is so hard, especially sidewalls compared to the GSC's. just thought i would ask, let me know and enjoy your skunk, Jack.:cool

I fell in love the GS on the way back from the Bowling Green 50th celebration. I saw my first one up close when we hooked up for the caravan to head down, but then had one blow by me on the way back. I followed him running 90 mph and above for over a hundred miles, man what a blast.

It was during that drive I decided my 2nd vette will be a skunk, and I've since decided to do my current car in a reverse scheme when I get it repainted. I'm even contemplating putting the stripe on my blue full-size Chevy pickup. I'm addicted and I don't even have one yet.

The only downside is my wife likes the Admiral equally well and insists that the GS will be hers to drive, and that I may get to drive it once a week. :cry

Berky, drive a GS and you will fall in love with them. ordered the twin skunks new and finally parted with them for a new Z06. i miss them, but will probably get another one. i think they are one of the nicest looking vettes ever made, just my 2 cents.

The tires on my GS are Goodrich radial TA's. As far as I know, they're not run-flats (but the wheels do have the infamous low tire pressure warning systems). I suspect that the compund is hard, since the tires don't squeal or burn, they just seem to lose grip. The car still goes like scat, but I'm sure new tires will help. I thought at one time about putting in 4.10 gears, but the car already accelerates fast enough with the 3.45 rear end to challenge my reflexes most of the time.

I understand that Goodyear has a great tire in the F1 series, but that's a topic for another forum.

For all of those who really want a Grand Sport, there are probably a dozen or so for sale at any given time. Just keep looking. A word to the wize for Vette owners going from C5's to the Grand Sport. If you buy a GS convertible don't expect anywhere near the rigidity in the chassis. I took the removable top panel off of my GS Coupe and was surprised to feel frame flex very similar to what I had experienced in my '69 BB. The top hasn't been off since except for cleaning.

You guys should live in central Ohio, there are 5 or 6 of us within a 20 ? mile radius. Great time when its warm here. Nothin like seeing one coming at you (except driving one). Just put F1's on a while back and its a nite and day difference. Never had the top panel off the coupe because I heard about the flex problem. My 99 Cobra vert gives me all the flex I ever want !

F-1 D3

I put these on all 4 corners. They are slicks with water channels like Formula 1 racing tires. Sticky and quiet dry. They vacuum to the pavement wet. New rim protection overlaps the wheel.

I was chirping through gears and sliding on the previous GY tires. These are great and will hook your beast to the road. They look serious on a vette.

;worship I agree.....looks like they were made for the GS

Long Live the Skunk

Elaine, Tim,

I've owned a few Vettes over my "long" life and I have to agree that the GS is one of the best looking Corvettes ever. That stripe gives the car an eveil look coming and going. Long live the Skunks - they're beautiful.

Remo :cool

P.S. The GS display this past summer at Carlisle was impressive. The jury is still out on that C5/GS look alike at the far end of the row. But even that one looked "pretty" good.

SkyGuy, you are so right on the GS vert. my cpe. was as stable as could be at 150. the vert would shake and rattle and felt like i was not even driving a GS. just from owning both, i would tell anyone looking at buying a skunk to go with a coupe. if you are looking for low production and plan on keeping one for a long time, go with vert for collectibility reasons. i will find out on the F1's when my 04 Z arrives, happy driving. and don't forget to save the wave.
